    What is your wedge set-up?

I'm trying to figure out the bag for the up-coming season and I'm looking for some opinions re: wedge set-up.

My two primary sets of irons both have 47* PWs I currently have a traditional 52, 56 and 60 degree 4 wedge set-up but I'm thinking of going with a 52 58 this year to gain an extra FW or hybrid.

What do you play and why??

    I play 48, 52, 56, 60 wedges. On the long end I have driver, 4W and then a 3-hybrid, 4-hybrid, etc.

For me I found that the difference between 3W and 5W from the fairway was negligible except for that 1 in 100 shot so I dropped them and went to a 4W which I can hit off the tee and from the deck reliably. I can hit my 3H as far as 210 and 200 off the deck. I figure that from the fairway if I'm more than 5i away, i.e. more than 180 yards out, my accuracy isn't going to be super-high anyway so I don't need a lot of clubs in that range.

However, from 120 yards in I'd like to have more options, hence the four wedges.

    46 deg PW
52 deg GW (bent to 50)
    56 deg SW
    60 deg LW

forgot the why. Basically it fills my gaps and gives me lots of options.

From 110 in I am almost always using my GW as I don't like hitting SW or LW off a fairway. I use the SW a lot around the green, out of the rough, sand, etc. 60 deg is for when I need to hit a flop shot and stop it quick.
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

I am having the same problem. Currently I have PW and then 53, 56 and 60. However, I was hoping to add one of those new Cleveland Niblick's to the bag. I am just wondering where it would fit in.

Like the others I've got 4 wedges, then again, I don't give too much credence to the 14 club rule because I don't play competitive golf, so my decision hasn't been tough.

When I was a member at Renfrew and played in club tourneys I only carried a 47, 54 and 58. Given that on almost all of the par 4's there I rarely had more than a PW into the green anyway, it was a pretty stupid decision to not drop the fairway metal in favour of a 4th wedge (which I often required).

3* difference between the long irons, 4* between the middle irons and 5* between the wedges. The PW of today is essentially the 9 iron of 20 years ago. Although I carry 4 wedges (by name), I treat my PW more like a 10-iron.

For all of you 60 degree lovers. How often do you use it during a particular round? Once? Twice? More.

    PW, 53, 56, 60

As for the 60, I use it all the time. 53 is for full shots and the occasional bump and run or half swing pitch. 56 for full shots and sand shots. 60 gets used everywhere...pitch shots, chip shots, flop shots (my signature), as a putter when the ball is jammed right up against the first cut.

I also use a 4 wedge system (PW, 52, 56, 60). I find this provides me with the best tools for my short game and IMO that helps me score the best.

Depends. I use mine out of hard/wet sand bunkers, from the fairway, greenside, etc.

What I DON'T do is use it for lob shots. Those are for suckers.

    46 deg PW
    52 deg GW
    56 deg SW
    60 deg LW

I dropped the 5W in favour of 4 wedges. The distance difference between my 5W and 3h is not a lot. And I prefer to have more options as I get close to the green.

I go 46*, 54* and 58*. I don't use the 58* for full shots often, but I'll use it for everything inside 60 yards or so. Haven't found a 50* wedge I like yet, or would use more than two or three times a round. I only carry 13 clubs.

    47* bent to 45*
    52* bent to 49*
    56* bent to 54*
    60* bent to 59*

In my opinion, the regular 52*, 56*, 60* set up leaves too wide of a gap between your PW and GW, unless you have tour lofts (48* PW). Especially when most don't swing as hard with a wedge in hand.

I believe my PW is 48* and to be honest I rarely hit full shots with any of my wedges, it's usually three quarters or whatever the shot is calling for. So I find my yardages from 120 yds and in are covered pretty well. But I would agree if you are playing a PW with a 47* loft you might have a little bit of a gap there.

I play a 52* and 58* setup, mostly so I can use an additional FW.

IMHO the "4-wedge system" is made for long hitters who are using wedges for full-swing approach shots all the time. When it comes pitches, chips, flops and bunker shots then you really don't need that many - there is really no "short game shot" that I could do with a 56* or 60* wedge that I can't do with the 58*.

There are exceptions to every rule, but I really think you need to look at the length of your typical approach shots to determine whether to pack more wedges or more FW/hybrids.

My PW is 48* and I carry 53* and 58* wedges. I used to carry 4 wedges when my other iron set was more towards 47* on the PW with 52, 56, and 60. But I found I did not use the 52 very much. So I decided to simplify and go to the aforementioned combo. Rest of clubs are driver, 3w, 2i and 3i hybrid, then 4-9 irons. I could easily lose one of the hybrids or 4i (depending on course/conditions) for another wedge, but frankly it was not helping me before. Although my short game still sucks, it seemed to be less sucky when I focused on one wedge for the majority of my shots around the green.

I have been thinking alot about this andi think i am going to go with 4 this season again
    46, 50, 54, 58

and then swap out my 4 iron and 3 hybrid as figure out which i am using more just seems that neither of those 2 get pulled out very often.

If i find that i need both the 4 iron and hybrid i will do 46(pw) 52, 58 but i don't see that happening

One thing to keep in mind before you go pulling your 4 iron is what club will you use to punch out of the trees etc. I tried using a 3-4 hybrid set-up but found that on those occassions when I needed to punch out of trouble a 5 iron had to much loft and closing the face right down just messes me up - a personal thing I know, but be sure to factor it in to your decision making process

its funny you would say that, i was thinking about that when i was writing it, and since i also carry a 2 hybrid i find it very easy to choke down on it and get about the same distance as the 3 would go. I love the low punch under the tree, you know if I ever get in the situation

Everytime I am within 60 yards off the green off a tight lie and need to stop the ball quickly. Maybe 4-5 times a round.

I carry 5 wedges 46,50,54,58,62. This set up works best for me because I have nice even gaps between 145-85 yards which is where I find most of my approach shot are from.

My wedges change or have been changing in recent years....I find it depends a lot on the course and especially the tees I am playing from. I do love my 60* though, its a constant.
