Your clubhead is approaching the ball too steep. Drive it forward.

you are either to short and your clubs are too long OR your clubs are too long and you are too short.

What make are your clubs? "Caterpillar"?

With all irons or just your long ones? You might be taking it too upright...stop yourself at your backswing, and see where your arm position is...if you let your club "drop, does it land on your shoulder or your head?

Played Champlain today, and experienced the "monster divot" thing. Wetness in the ground sunk my feet in a bit, and changed the setup position and mechanical reflex of my swing to the point where I was hitting about a half inch lower than I normally would. The result was a lot of "spray-off" and huge clumps of turf (all replaced).

I just think it's too early to really worry too much about it.

    divots

that comment about wet ground makes sense, especially if one might be a
bit larger(as myself)..i was playing last year after a particualarly rainy day and all i did
was garden(take big chunks of dirt) with my irons...turned out it was because i was
sinkng into the ground a bit where it was especially wet and that changed my swing to the point that the club now seemd to long/ opnce i realized what was going on i choked down on the club a little and all was fine again...so wait till it dries out more and if you still have a problem..then worry..

If all golfers had this "problem" they would be much better players. A healthy divot indicates a downward line to the ball and that the trail or right wrist is still bent backwards, revealing that you have held off the release correctly. Maximum distance, accuracy and backspin are achieved by doing this. I am assuming that your iron contacts the ball first. A proper divot starts under the target side of the ball.

If the divot is long and shallow, don't change a thing. Just replace it. If it is "chunky" move your ball position a little farther forward, or your will have to consult a good physiotherapist, eventually.

Always strive for "bacon strips' not "pork chops."

I'm was getting inch thick steaks. I fixed it alittle though. I think I was swaying alittle (damn rusty winter swing) in my backswing, and that was why I was hitting the ball alittle on the fat side.
