    Options?

An easy one to get your heads wrapped around the game again.

A player hits his shot from the tee (A) and his ball first strikes the course just beyond the hazard line (B), and then rolls back into the hazard, finishing at (C).

    What are his options?

When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

Drop one club length from point of entry (b) no nearer the hole.

am I right in assuming it is NOT a lateral water hazard.

If it is not you can

    a. play it as it lies
    b. Replay it from A with a one stroke penalty or
    c. Drop it behind the hazard in line with the flag and where it last crossed the hazard with a one stroke penalty. There is no limit to how far back you can drop it along this line
    d. cheat

Am I right..I've been trying to brush up on the rules because...frankly, I didn't know them

    Well done goochy!

You are correct that it is not a lateral water hazard (those are usually identified by red lines/stakes, not yellow).

    p.s. Please don't use Option "d".

p.p.s. Order yourself a rulebook from the RCGA, that way you can always have the rules handy.

That's one that's very often played incorrectly with players dropping as if it was a lateral hazard. I have to get back to the books again as I've got lots of rule quizzes to go over to get ready for the 2009 tournaments. Keep them coming and I'll try to post a few also. Time for BC to throw the odd one in too.
