When does the golf season begin in Ontario?

I'm an Albertan looking to plan a holiday in Ontario in mid-April (in association with a work trip). I'm curious if there is any hope to plan on golfing at the same time. I'll be in the Ottawa, Toronto and Kingston areas. Thanks for any local comments.

We are usually golfing in mid-April in Ottawa. Even with the crazy winter we had last year courses were open then.

The question is really one of which courses. Some of the nicer ones don't rush to open and as a result open a little later.

TO is generally warmer and has less snow than we do so they will have better selection at that time of year.

Kingston is pretty much like Ottawa from what I understand.
Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

Thanks for the replies - so encouraging to be planning for golf in the spring. Especially today, as I grab for the shovel to dig my car out of what may become a record snowfall. And I ask myself why the heck I choose to live in this climate . . .

Since we rarely come east, and (Canadian) spring golf will be a pleasure for us, we are prepared to pay a few bucks for the privilege of whacking it around on a decent course. Toronto area sounds like our best bet for early spring. We also will be around Kingston in the summer. Any suggestions of well-kept courses in both these locations from personal experience?

Have not played any "Toronto" courses too much $$$$$ usually play KW --guelph --Cambridge area. Good deals. You may take a look at Smugglers Glen--Black Bear Ridge---have not played these but quite a few of the guys here have.

Best advice. Call before you take the time to pack your twigs.

The way our winter is going right now we could still have a foot of snow on the ground in Mid April.
My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

Just checked my "stats" for the last few years. As the winters have been getting longer, start dates have been pushed back. Starting in 2005, started locally (Ottawa) Apr 15, 17, 30 and last year May 05. My son used to live in Kingston and their season usually opens about 2 weeks ahead of Ottawa. Toronto is usually a week or two earlier than that. BUT, this year has been very snowy and my son in Oakville (btwn Toronto/Hamilton) was looking for a snow blower. This is the first January in many years that Ottawa has not had a "thaw". Don't know where the global warming went (Australia maybe) but no evidence of it here. Hope you enjoy your trip.

PS - I love my golf but am not one to golf the first day clubs open (cold & soggy is no fun for me), so others may have been golfing a few weeks before these dates.
