removing finish on Studio Design putter
Will removing the finish(gun blue or black pearl) on a Studio Design affect the playability of the putter? Will it change the feel or is the finish just cosmetic? If the finish is gone I guess you will have to keep it from rusting afterwards...is this correct?
Need advice from you experts. Thanks.

I have a raw Studio Design at home.. I would say it feels about the same.. Maybe a bit diff.. Not a noticeable diff. to me.. It won't change the playability at all.. Lastly it will rust easily..

How does one take off the finish? Is it easy to do?
how do you prevent it from rusting afterwards?

You can Coke off the finish by soaking it in Coke.. Not 100% sure a lot of other methods..
It will be tough to prevent the rust as its raw Metal at this point.. Mine isn't very rusty but it doesn't leave the house much.. I would just suggest keeping it very dry.. After a round make sure its dryed and not stored in a wet headcover..Proud Member BigJohnnys Ryder Cup Team '08

You can't take the finish off a black pearl Studio Design, that's nickel plated and will need some professional attention. Gun Blue is as easy as Lance said, and if you want to try and refinish it afterwards, you can cold blue it yourself if you want. There are kits at Canadian Tire.

The scotty I will be getting is gun blue but has quite a bit of rust. If I can't stand the look of it then I will remove the finish and try finishing it myself.
Have you ever tried finishing yourself...is it easy? like spray painting?

PM Atomic, he's done it before, it's a pretty easy process, more dipping than spray painting. Before you do take the finish off, it'd be worth taking some steel wool to the putter head to get rid of the rust. You might be surprised how much finish is left underneath it. Here are some before and after pictures of my SD1, all I used was 0000 steel wool. It's not perfect but it's perfectly good as a gamer.

Thanks for your generous offer, Atomic. I will probably take you up on it depending on what the sd1.5 looks like. Looking forward to my first scotty gamer.

This question might be a little off topic, but thanks for any answers.
Is using the coke method a good way to get the finish off of wedges or is there a better way for wedges?
