When Is It Too Cold For You To Play Golf?

Ok this subject was brought up this past weekend by a member of this forum. He said if the temperatures go below 20 C then it is too cold for him to play golf. I say he is a wussy if that is the case.

Now the question is this. What is the lowest temperature that you will play golf in?

Personally I have played when it was right around 0 C or slightly above. If the course was open we played. I have played 9 holes on New Years Day.

    So what is your limits?

I'll play as long as the wind chill is above Zero. I don't mind the cold, but cold AND windy is where I draw the line

Lots of yoga pants these days, not enough Yoga!

Lowest I'll play would be 5 C if sunny, 10 C if cloudy, but if it's 20k wind, add a few degrees.
I need to feel my hands and a parka inhibits the swing. Hard ground is also a factor as already mentioned.

I'm with you Hacker. I've played at +3C with light snow. Mind you that was with three other nuts and I was younger. 0-5 in the sun is great, subject to the course conditions. Played le Sorcier with Big Mac a few years ago. Greens frozen solid and one of us skipped a ball across the frozen pond on 17 (?). Makes for some good shots, and of course good memories.

Sorry guys--maybe I am a wuss but below 15 I'm out. At my age screwing up my arm again and losing 3 monthes playing is not worth it. I don't know--it might be an age thing but watching the pros in the confines of 70 degrees and a glass of scotch seems a lot more relaxing to me. But on the other side I do miss the company
    Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

Will play in just about anything, as long as there is a course still open. Not as enjoyable when cold and bundled up but hey, a day on the course is better than sitting inside. Any day golfing is great!! Our winters are way to long to not play when able to.
Never dreamt I would ever get so hooked on this game!!

I think that 10 would be my limit. It depends of the chill factor. Being cold, wet and stiff is no fun. 10 and sunny would still be nice though.

There's playing in the cold and enjoying your day, and then there's the well earned bragging rights days, as depicted above.

I am with you Scott. I will play on a cold day, but not on a cold+windy or cold+rainy day. And by cold I mean <5 degrees celcius.

When I can't feel my hands or face, I anot just not having much fun.

It was about 4c when I teed off this morning. It wasn't bad when there was no wind but when the wind was on you, hands went numb quick.

Strangely enough, the greens at all 3 courses I normally play are just as good now as they were back in July.

And I played on that day!

I'll play so long as it is above freezing. 1 degree Centigrade without wind can be perfectly wonderful. It takes a lot to chase me off the course. Life is too short. I want to play whenever I can.

I think that we're the same vintage so I have some experience to share. Advil, an hour before the round. And now that it is colder, and I am older, I found that a hot bath for about 15 minutes before heading out tends to loosen up those muscles aching from other fun pursuits such as raking, curling and vacuumng. Can't say that my scores would be any better but at least I can enjoy the sun, fresh air and company a little longer. If I could not stretch the season out for 8 months don't know what I'd do.

If its sunny and little wind I will play above zero, other wise my parka restricts my swing too much.

I think I was at both courses the day you took those pictures Steve!

1st ones were at Greensmere? Is that me putting?
2nd one was Vieux Moulins, & we were I think one or 2 groups behind you.

Needless to say, I will play as long as a course is open.

I loved that mild winter we had 2 years ago when the only month you couldn't play in the region was february. Here's hoping for another fall/winter like that!

I'll play as long as a course is open. Played Christmas Eve at Cedar Glen and LVM in January during the mild winter a couple of years ago. The only weather I won't play in is cold and raining.

Cold AND rainy is where I draw the line. Drove out to Casselview two years ago when it was about +2 or +3 and it started to rain. I opted to not play. My fellow Slammers are still needling me about that. I'll play when it's rainy but not cold. I'll play when it's cold but not rainy. Both makes for a bad combination.

    Surely someone appreciates that?
