Whenever the time may be for you to purchase or lease a
new vehicle, keep this information in mind. You might
want to give more consideration to a car manufactured by an
American-owned and / or American based company.
Apart from Hyundai and Volkswagen, the foreign car
companies contributed nothing at all to the citizens of the
United States .
It's OK for these companies to take money out of this
country, but
it is apparently not acceptable to return some in a
time of crisis. I
believe we should not forget things like this.

Seriously, this is the information I should be considering when I go to make my next vehicle purchase? I should ignore all the specs, and prices, and safety ratings and just go ahead and choose a vehicle because a company, Ford for example, with a Revenue of $172 billion (2007) made a $1 million contribution, plus a few cars? That's equal to someone with an income of $50,000, donating $0.30.
Not to be too cynical, but I believe that's the exact reason why companies have PR budgets. I can see how this might have an impact on the very patriotic, but I just see it as money coming from the same budget that sponsors golf tournaments.Let's put a Smile on that Face!

Chrysler in 2001 was German owned and operated, and still gave $10M versus the $1M that GM and Ford each gave.

Ford and GM ONLY give $1M and a few cars and they expect that to count for something?? Give me a freaking Break.

Obviously, those foreign companies hate America, and should be shunned.

Donating to charity is not a contest nor is it an obligation - and that is especially true if you choose to single out any one charitable cause over others.
I could pick ANY worthy charitable cause and draw up my own "leaderboard" - and there would be many companies on mine that are not on yours and vice-versa. What does that prove? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
These companies should be thanked for their generosity and support. If they support a cause that is close to YOUR heart, then by all means feel free to support them for it. But there is no need to slam others because they chose to support some other cause, or pledged less money to YOUR cause than others. There is not enough money in the world to satisfy EVERY need.

Slightly biased information concerning the former employer of the original poster!
This would not influence my decision at all. If Honda supplies a less expensive, similar quality car to what GM and Ford are offering in the same class, I'll buy the Honda. Chances are, the gas on a Hyundai/Honda, etc is going to be less expensive as well to factor in.
For that matter, the thought of "what have you done for me lately" comes to mind when presented with 7 year old "victories" on the PR front. There are still gaping holes in the ground, are the payments still coming? Combined in the last 7 years, they have probably made over a trillion dollars, and yet, this is still being dredged up?
