Re-Gripping Graphite shafts
Do I need to worry about damaging the shaft when removing the old grip? If so what precautions should I take?
I normally use just a utility knife to score the old grip, rip it off and then the special tool from Golfworks that takes off the old tape.
Thanks in advance.

Scoring the grip (not going through it) is essential. You could also use a hook blade in your utility knife. You must not nick the graphite. When removing the tape, I do not use any tools on graphite, just to be safe--really, a metal blade should not touch it. If the tape is particularly tough, heat it up a bit with a heat gun and it should peel off in reasonable strips.

GarthM. PowerFade(BTW whenever I hit a fade unpurposely in my mind I have hit a bad shot a draw is another story) pretty well summed it up. We are talking about this kind of tool aren't we?

A tape scraper that doesn't damage graphite, thanks to the special radiused machined edge on the cutting blade that lifts off tape without gouging. Easily peels the tape off any shaft — steel or graphite. Note: blade will scratch the polyurethane coating of graphite shafts, which is OK, but will not gouge the surface.Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.
