    Handicapping confusion

My friends cap is going to be 18.9 on the course we play on sunday. Its actually 18.4 but because the slope is higher on that course it moves to 18.9. Does he only take a double as his esc or does he round the 18.9 to 19 and take a triple? I thought 18 - 18.9 was double and that you don't round...
Your COURSE handicap NOT your Hcp factor

Your "course handicap" is always an integer.

You need to calculate the course handicap from your factor. There are tables that do the mapping or you can use the USGA online calculator.

An 18.9 would map to a 19 course handicap.
Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

All clubs have course handicap charts posted for all of their tees. You simply look at the tees you will be playing and cross reference it against the handicap factor that you currently have. That will give you your course handicap, that is applicable to that set of tees, on that particular course.

Don't forget that you only use ESC AFTER the round...
