Let's see if I got this straight... There is a massive recall on Maple Leaf products that make people sick...

Does the list include the Toronto Maple Leaf hockey team?

    Sorry... just had to...

all fo the major companies listed (SUbway, McDonalds, Boston Pizza) got rid of the stuff last week and early this week. Plus only 2 products have tested positive, the rest are precautionary, but good on the company for taking it to this level, very expensive thing to do.

Unfortunately, stuff happens. The response from Maple Leaf foods was the correct one. It's a very sad story and we have not heard the last chapter yet.

If you have some package Schneider or Maple Leafs look for the round stamp (size of a nickel) and if it says N97 do not eat it. This is the packaging plant where the trouble started.
If you think it's hard to meet new people, try picking up the wrong golf ball.

These companies look at the bottom line... how many more people would have died, gotten sick? How much to settle those cases? How much to recall the minimum amount of meat to make it look like they are doing something. How much loss of revenue from not doing much... After factoring all that in, its better to take the 20-40mil its going to cost them to take it all back and not have a massive drop in revenue. I don't for a second thing if it was cheaper the other way that they wouldn't have done it. I hope i'm wrong but I doubt it.

There is no doubt that this is tragedy but Maple Leaf foods have taken measures far, far beyond what they were legally obligated to do.

It is very, very hard to show a definitive link to the source of a lysteria infection and Maple Leaf foods have voluntarily removed hundreds of products - given the level of uncertainty I do tip my hat especially for the unquestioned cooperation with Health Officials.

A similar issued occurred with a pharmaceutical product and instead of working with the Health Officials the company in question took Health Canada to court seeking an injunction against the Govenment because its actions may have had a negative effect on the company's bottom line......when I compare to the Maple Leaf situation I do have to tip my hat...

I was thinking the same thing when I read the thread title.

The main difference is, Maple Leaf Foods found listeria in the turkey, the Leafs found a Finger mixed in with their turkeys.
When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.
