OK, I'll let the cat out of the bag.
Yes I want to host this at my club. Now before everyone starts moaning and groaning, I've given this alot of thought. It's a fairly open course, and judging by the vast array of handicaps we have so far, this course will give everyone on each team a chance to contribute shots off the tee, even if they happen to be a bit wild that day. And besides, the course is in pretty good shape.
Cost is going to be fantastic. $25 will get you your green fee and either a hot dog or hamburger to start your day. I was thinking about a noon tee off. Carts will be an additional cost.
As for the format, here's what I suggest. Once we have our players signed up, we split the players in half (low caps and high caps). Then draw names randomly from a hat, one low cap and one high cap, until all the names are drawn. From there, as in normal handicap matches, the lowest combined capped team (ex: Team cap of 15) will play of scratch, and teams will be given strokes based on the following format (the one we use for club events):
Team cap of 15-17: 0 strokes
18-20: 1 stroke
21-23: 2 strokes
So on and so on....
And seeing as how the registration is so low, perhaps each players throws in $10 and we award the top three times with a cash prize.
Any thoughts.....
And when you sign up, don't forget to vote on a date.
And for those that don't know, my home course is Copperdale (formerly Edgewood).Last edited by Big Johnny69; 08-15-2008 at 06:30 PM.

I'm interested - Sept 20th works best for me; that being said - either Oct dates could work out...
Now last time I signed up for one of these, I threw out my back a few weeks later.
Here's to hoping this doesn't happen again!!!!

Ah Reza, I don't want some course that is tree lined or has bunkers everywhere. We're all hackers here. This gives every team a shot on every hole and chance for every team to be in the running. It wouldn't be fun to be punching out of bunkers or out of trees all day long in a scramble.
It will be a fun day. And could you have more fun for possibly $35?"A life lived in fear of the new and the untried is not a life lived to its fullest." M.Pare 10/09/08

We need at least 4 more, most likely 6 with the most likely dates not working for a few of the guys.
And as of now, leaning towards the Sept 20th date. Is everyone ok with the $10 pot amount?"A life lived in fear of the new and the untried is not a life lived to its fullest." M.Pare 10/09/08

I thought you were mountain creek. Isn't edgewood, um, kinda like a marsh? Don't be offended, I'm just asking. What's it like these days?

I haven't been at MC for years. And no, Copperdale isn't a marsh. The ownership has actually put a lot of work into the course over the last couple of years. I wouldn't put it up there with the great courses just yet, but it's getting better and it's a lot of fun to play."A life lived in fear of the new and the untried is not a life lived to its fullest." Edgewood??? now Copperdale
Geoff
I am really curious about Copperdale formerly Edgewood. Without any disrespect, this course hasn't been on my radar since the late 1980's. Fairways were hard and greens did not hold but that is what I remember of the mid-summer conditions from rounds I played.
Have the conditions changed at Edgewood / Copperdale?

With all the rain this year, the course is playing much different. Greens are holding, fairways are softer. Like I mentioned above, the new ownership is doing everything they can to change people's opinions of the course. From what I understand, the old ownership didn't care much for course maintenance.
Come out, give it a try and have a good time with other forum members. Don't think you could do much better for $25."A life lived in fear of the new and the untried is not a life lived to its fullest." M.Pare 10/09/08
