    Ball in a gopher/snake/racoon hole.

    Here is what happened. Likely an easy response.

    My son's ball landed in an animal hole, it was definitley in the gophers entrance to his house, but we could see it and identify it.

    This anilmal's house was off the fairway in the rough if that will have an impact.

    Obviously it was unplayable.

    Free relief or unplayable lie penalty?

    A burrowing animal hole is defined as an "abnormal ground condition" and as such you get free relief under Rule 25.
    Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

    Remember also, the reference point for relief is vertically above the ball. If the ball cannot be seen, the reference point is where it entered the hole.

    Be careful when you reach into the hole as your fingers may come out in an "abnormal condition."
