Windows XP SP3
Should I install this upgrade on my computer or should I stay far away from it? To date, I have resisted installing it for fear of attracting problems that I don't now have.
I am running Windows XP in a Dell computer with a 2.8 GHz processor and 1.5 GB of RAM.

XP Service pak3
I was warned about it, but installed it eventually and had mega problems. Had to remove it. Thank God I could.

I recentl;y installed SP# and have no complaints yet. I did witness a small slowdown but I also installed the latest AVG and I think its due to that, not SP3.

I installed it a while ago with no problems.
Before any major update I always do a full backup of my OS partition using 3rd party software like Ghost or TruImage so that if something gets borked I can revert to my start point without any problems.
I've never quite trusted the Windows roll back function. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

There was some new stuff in SP3 in addition to all of the rolled up stuff from SP2.
I was actually waiting for SP3 because there was a specific feature that I needed. The ability to use EVR for DVD playback for the geeks in the crowd. This also required .Net 3.0 too.Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

Hi Mike,
I tried to run my SkyCaddie on that computer (windows XP) and couldn't do it until I install Service Pack 3 (SP3).
The computer has been running perfectly and it has been about 3 weeks.
Hope this helps...If you think it's hard to meet new people, try picking up the wrong golf ball.

Thanks for the comments. I'm still not sure whether I should install it, although it may happen anyway. I use the automatic upgrade feature with Windows. Hopefully, it won't download this installation without my consent.

I installed it some time ago and haven't had any issues. There is a SP blocker tool available from Microsoft that will block the installation for one year.

I installed it today via Automatic updates. My system is a relatively new Intel Quad core 2.6ghz, Asus 680i Motherboard, 2 gig ram and Nvidia 8800 GTS video card. I have done some basic testing with my critical software, Office 2007 apps, Adobe CS3 apps, all my web tools and my current favorite game (Grid) and so far no issues.
Hope that helps.Life dinnae come wit gimmies so yuv got nae chance o' gitt'n any from me.
