    Forum suggestion...

So this is regarding the much appreciated news feeds posted by Dan.

I frequent quite a few other golf boards and this came to mind the other day when I saw a recent Open feed.

    Here is my suggestion...

Rather than posting the details, for example, "Weir shares lead @ Canadian Open", perhaps the title could read, "Canadian Open Update".

The reason for this suggestion is many people PVR the rounds with the intention of watching them when they have the chance. If they want to browse the board before watching the round they recorded, the title almost gives away the result or story.

On other boards they have the title as I've suggested above, and the members have the ability to surf the board without the spoiler. The thread content is still the same, but the title masks the results.

    Anyway, it's just a suggestion.

Just to voice the opposite view, I want to know the subject matter so I can decide whether to open the thread and the link to find out the details.

But then, I don't watch sports on a delayed basis.

I think there should be a rule that requires you to post the details of the thread in the title. I get so annoyed when I click on a thread that says "driver for sale" would it kill you to tell me which driver, what loft, what flex right in the title?

On the other hand for world golf news a no spoiler rule would be great

I just avoid all media when I "timeshift". I was working last week and PVR'd the British Open... when I finished work on Sunday at 5, I kept the radio off and avoided talking to anyone or listening/watching something that would ruin it for me. Staying away from here was another goal I managed to meet!

Please, please, please Dan, leave it just the way it is. Nothing kills golf discussion like titles such as "Canadian Open results - Spoiler".
A few years ago Golf Equipment Afficionados put in a rule to disallow spoiler threads. They don't talk about golf anymore over there... just equipment. But, it's an equipment site so that is OK I guess... this is a golf site. We want to talk about golf.
The opinions expressed in this post are mine and may not necessarily reflect the opinions of others on OG.

I respect your opinion, but beg to differ.

The two sites I frequent that have "Spoiler" in the title manage to discuss the contents for multiple pages.

It's not a means of keeping people out of the thread.

In some cases, these threads come up within an hour of the completion of the round. Some people are going to catch the later showing or like I mentioned before, recorded the round for later viewing.

Anyway, it seems to work in other forums so I thought I'd suggest it here.

    Thanks for the suggestion but...
    1. These are from a feed. It would be a pain to edit the subject lines as you request
    2. Informative subject lines are best.
    3. We definately want to encourage discussion of the events and these often kick off good discussions.
    4. Only a small percentage PVR golf. Avoid the media when you do that.
Life dinnae come wit gimmies so yuv got nae chance o' gitt'n any from me.
