    Electrifying

This didn't happen to me but I thought it would be interesting.

At metcalfe golf & CC they have overhead power line that on a few holes come right across the fairway in almost the perfect spot for a well placed drive to have a good chance on hitting them.

What is the ruling if your drive hits the powerline?

Most courses that have this condition have a standard local rule which requires the player to rehit the shot with no penalty. Emerald Links W7 has the same situation. Check the scorecard for local rules.

I know there are a few holes at Eidelweiss where there are wires and towers in play. I recall twanging one off some wires off an elevated par 4 tee there.

I use to be a member there. The rule was you rehit your shot.

I have hit the wires on the Par 3 fourth at Hammond twice.

Once was a few years ago.

Then, a couple weeks ago, I was playing there, and teamed up with a 2-some. While waiting on the tee, we were talking about the wires, and I told them I hit them once with a 3-iron, and had to rehit. I joked about how it would have been an ace.

I promptly stepped up and hit the wires with the 3-iron again. They wouldn't concede the obvious ace, so I had to rehit.

(The scorecard does give the local "rehit - no penalty" rule for all wires and towers.)

Just remember the rule is a required rehit. Not an optional one.

I know. I was being rather toungue-in-cheek about the "obvious ace".

On reading the rule, it says replay even for the towers. On 13 at Hammond, the tower is back-left of the green, so a wayward shot, if you hear it hit (I sometimes approach the green from an angle where the base of the tower is out of sight) you should drop and replay from the fairway as well.

Likewise on 1, where the tower is over the bunker to the right of the fairway.

Coincidentally I was refereeing at a County Juniors Comp earlier today. After seeing such an incident and telling the player he had to retake his (second in this case) shot again I radioed the other officials around the course.
'I have just seen a player hit his two iron three times and he's on the par 5 15th in 2. How did he do it?'

    No one got the answer.

I've always been told that the rule at Metcalfe is that if you hit the power lines you must replay your shot. If you hit the tower you play it where it lies.

Think of the wires as a man made obstruction,
    the tower is a TREE
