It would be funny to write something like, "THIS IS NOT YOUR BALL!"
Or, "This Ball Has been stolen from _________"

Or on your Pro V1's "Please return to _________"

I considered marking my balls with a postage stamp and a return address label, however I couldn't afford that many stamps.

I mark my balls with a scripted D under the logo and add a cheater line with a blue sharpie.

    Bye.

    Ball marks!

I use dissolved Epsom Salts to mark the ball with an alignment line. Not a cheater line! And then a few dots for good measure.
That "centered ball theory" really helps on good greens.

I have big initials on both sides of the ball. A month ago, someone in my tournament brought me two of my balls that he found.

I don't see any reason to be subtile about it. Make it easy to recognize, and hard for me to accidentally hit someone else's ball (if I don't see the mark, it's not my ball).

1/4 red line on the equator and a dot on the axis

There's another thread going on about slow play.

I'd make adjusting a ball illegal. Picking up a ball for the sole purpose of orienting the equator line is not golf. I'd require that a player have a valid reason (dirt or being somewhere close to the line of the putt) in order to mark a ball.

The basic rule of golf is "play it as it lies", but with a bunch of other rules come into play when this doesn't work.

.....As far as I know the line from the chec go is only used when putting or on a tee box. You cannot Aline your ball between those two places unless it's lift clean and place.

"Hi, I'm lost. I'm one of a set of identical duodectuplets. If you happen to see any of my siblings, please tell them that I love and miss them."

    "Distant cousin of Tiger's ball"

    "Now, property of YOU"

    "Failed to reach escape velocity"

    "Have you seen my golfer?"

    "OUCH!!"

    "I suffer from swing moods"

When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.
