    Unplayable Lie

Scenario, shortish par 4 (320 yds or so), OB fence line down the left side, but about two feet of sparse bushes before you get to the OB line. A drive comes to rest in the bushes but not OB. Ball is deemed unplayable, players measures two club lengths from the spot of his ball (no nearer the hole), drops, proceeds to hit his next shot to 2', makes the putt for par.

My question is, for an unplayable, do you have to keep the point of where the ball was deemed unplayable between you and the hole, and if yes, and this cannot happen based on the design of the hole, does the player have to go back to where the last shot was played from?

I don't think you have to... I think that is one of your drop options, so is going to back to the tee and of coruse the 2 clubs no closer to the hole

    Sillywilly is essentially correct:

If the player deems his ball to be unplayable, he must, under penalty of one stroke:
    a. Play a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played (see Rule 20-5); or
    b. Drop a ball behind the point where the ball lay, keeping that point directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind that point the ball may be dropped; or
    c. Drop a ball within two club-lengths of the spot where the ball lay, but not nearer the hole.

I would think a Level 9 Rules official wouldn't just think he knew the correct answer...

another option , D is one I see players taking a lot

drop withen 2 clublengths of the point of entry to the forest or whatever

Of course the D stands for "Dickhead" .....but it takes a lot to convince some that there is no such option

D also stands for Damn marshalls who strongly discourage weekend golfers from taking the 5 five minutes which the rules allow to look for a 'lost' ball......heaven help you if you want to go back to the tee and play another ball under penalty of stroke and distance.
