I really wonder how much we'll see of Tiger in the future. He has such a strong will to win, I imagine even if the knee continues to be a problem he'll still figure out how to win on it. I just don't think we'll see him that often going forward.

As for the PGA, I think the Fed Ex cup may actually help keep interest going. The playoffs last year were exciting and had the top pros out almost every week. If they can fix it to allow more movement up and down the standings, the Fed Ex Cup may be able to fill the Tiger void.

Can Tiger still win (or place well in) the Fedex Cup if he doesn't play anymore? He has a substantial lead.

Have no fear - those who should be eating crow either will claim to be vegetarians or will say that they are eating duck.

I'd say "Kudos to Kiwi" for eating the crow openly. It takes someone of honour to eat crow.

I am neither a Tiger lover or hater (I like Vijay). And I could not care less if he was faking or not. BUT:

tiger has shown me two things.. He is the greatest player ever and he is an idiot. If he made the cut by one stroke you would have seen him listen to his doctors and pull out but because he was in the hunt he played on and is now out the rest of the season. Yes he won and it made for great tv but sports first soon to be billionare risked a heck of a lot to win one major. The fact that he won doesn't change my opinion, he risked to much to win this open and I'm certain (hope I'm wrong) that this will cost him more majors than the one he risked it all for

I would have thought that surgeons would be prohibited from speculating on the extent of a particular individual's injuries without having seen him. It's one thing to answer a hypothetical case. It's quite another to opine on the extent of Tiger's condition when Tiger is not your patient.

The unfounded speculation never ends. That's what makes this site so much fun.

I would think in this situation the doctors must have recommended he not play. Litigation is very live and well in the US. That makes is even harder to make the right decision for yourself.

I disagree if your statement is intended to be a conclusion of unassailable fact. There is simply no reasoned basis on which to draw that conclusion. On the other hand, if you are simply offering it up as a possibility, then I do not have a problem with your musings.

I love these Drs who speculate, they drive me nuts. Tiger has always been a private person and if he and his media specialists want to divulge only certain information and it seems to be eroneous or not comletely forthcoming then who really cares. He is out for the rest of the season, period. If he miraculously returns in the fall then we can speculate that he is manipulating the facts to put himself in the spotlight and add to his mystique. Personally I think this is way overhyped, get well and come back next year with a slam!!

mike I love the way you write. Star trek next generation was my fav of the star trek series and you write like data used to speak yes its just an opinion but I am curious what you think would have happened if tiger just made the cut, he was in pain and his doctors told him exactly what they told on Friday night or sat morning

Poke someone enough and they'll say what you want them to say. I don't think "career threatening" was ever used, just that Woods would need a long recovery.

For the amount of stress he puts on his body, why would a double stress fracture not be possible???

To all the nay-sayers and doubters, They guy played his heart out through severe pain and injury. Good on him.

Since we are speculating, I also disagree. For all we know, Tiger was told not to play and Tiger asked what will happen if he does play. If his doctor tells him that he may never walk without limping for the rest of his life if he plays, TW does not play. But if at worst he need another operation and loses a year of competition but will come back at 100%, we plays. It was his best chance at a third USOpen,

I think one thing we can say for certain (or just about) is that with surgery (and particularly with knees), there is no 100% guarantee of full recovery. To me, that alone makes Tiger's decision foolish. As I said earlier, it's not the same as a football player in his first superbowl, or an NHLer in his first Stanley cup. I know that we applaud these folks when they play through a severe injury. The big difference, however, is that the chances of those players getting another chance at a championship is minimal. With Tiger, however, if he's healthy, he is going to have many more opportunities to get majors. This was not the final major in the grand slam, or anything as momentous as that. It was an important tournament, yes, but not one worth risking long term damage for.

That's your opinion though. To him, winning on Torrey Pines, and to win around Father's Day meant it was worth the risk to him.

Well, even if he thought it was worth it, it was a foolish risk.

Respect your comment, but you should respect Tiger's decision. It's his and his alone. To you it might be foolish, but for him to win the national championship on his "home course" (his words) was probably well worth the risks.

I myself think he made a unwise decision, but I have to to his will and determination to win.

    Just my 2 cents.

Was out of commission last year for 8 weeks with tennis elbow. I knew that there was something wrong with my arm when I played my last round prior but it didn't stop me. I've got a guy on my baseball team with back problems, but he's there twice a week and plays his heart out. Plus I see knee braces, wrist and elbow braces on members of other teams. Ever been hurt and played anyways? Ever been hurt or sick and went into work 'cause you thought you had to get it done? I'd argue that "foolish decisions" when it comes to health and well-being is part of the human condition and that contrary to popular belief, Tiger is human like the rest of us. His unwise desicion is simply the same one many of us make routinely.
