How out of shape are you?
I just realized I'm out of shape... I was looking for my roller blades and needed to rest a few minutes because walking up and down the stairs got me tired :S
I don't think I could even run 5km right now. How about you???willy

Is there some sort of chilled Dairy Queen prize waiting for me at the end of this 5km run?
That should answer both questions.Let's put a Smile on that Face!

Fit or Fat
Usually play flat courses, Meadows, Pineview, Hammond, Metcalfe. Played Nation a few weeks ago. Could not have play again the next day even if I wanted to. Who let the air out of my legs? If I have to start taking a cart then maybe I'll be selling my TMs on the board.

I'm not in the best of shape, but have been in worse. Just started working 12 hour days landscaping...basically 12 hrs a day of weed-whacking. I tell you one thing...my scrawny forearms weren't too pleased for the first couple days.
Could I run 5k? Probably not, as I'd go 1 km and then decide that running is stupid and give up. If I was playing a soccer game though? I could go for hours. I just need the right motivation. I'd pass out afterwards, but I could definitely do it.

Thought I was in decent shape till I had to pass an easy physical at work, their recommendation........see a doctor, high blood pressure and very high cholestoral. And to think I have been walking the course thinking I was doing great, mind you I find I get overheated long before everyone else. Might slow down on walking on the hot days till I see the dr...............just in case!!!
But then again next friday hoping to shot about 108 holes of golf from sun up till sun down!!!!!!!!1Never dreamt I would ever get so hooked on this game!!

I lift and carry golf bags 3 days a week. I can tell you one thing my forearms are in shape! But not my belly I am a lot better now than I was two years ago. Plus I have no issues walking 18 holes at the course I work at. It is not exactly flat either.
I do not run, bad knees. But I can walk a long distance if I desire too.
Now, Sillywilly are you bored? You have more threads than a high quality suit!My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

I had a similar revelation last summer. Tried to play ultimate for the first time in a decade and realised what a difference 10 years and 50lbs makes!
The good news is thanks to golf in the summer and skiing in the winter I've dropped somewhere around 25-30lbs since this time last year.

Well, I'm pretty sure my cardio can take it but my knees would be quite at me. How about do a 50km bike ride?
Bad days golf, better then a good days work!

Dave personnal trainers aren't cheap. I think the average is about 60$/hr. You can sometimes do semi private (2) or group, depending on what type programme your looking at.

Dave, check with your local community center, and if it has a fitness facility, chances are thier recreational programs would offer personal training. Their packages are very good compare to some high end gyms. I had a package of 5 sessions for $200. I joined the community gym in the Winter just to kill time while waiting for my kids dance classes, and thought I could do my own work-out, but these newly graduated trainers are very knowledgable in making assessments and create a program to suit your needs...they are pretty good motivator, and would shame you work harder if you're getting a bit lazy. ... And yes, my kid was in a great spot for the pic, because "Molson muscle" is hard to get rid of..

I’m close to the best shape of my life at the moment. I lost over 15 pounds and 3 inches around my waist since November. I train 15-20 minutes a day 4 times a week with this easy program:

I’m at 2 packs shy of six pack abs.
Have fun
Edit: Nutrition adjustment is a big part.Strive for perfection, but never expect it!

I run (treadmill only as it's easier on the knees) twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays), about 45 minutes a pop, which amounts to a bit more than five miles - about 8 km. Circuit training twice a week (Mondays and Fridays). Play hockey once a week year round.
I'll agree with Mike that working out alone doesn't get results - you have to pay attention to your diet. Try cutting out one thing permanently and stick to it - like that one can of Coke a day, or the afternoon chocolate fix. You'll notice a difference even if you make this small change - but you have to be vigilant about it, and after a while you won't miss it.www.chapeaunoirgolf.com

I guess extremely unfit. Just walked 18 today. Very humid and then rainy then hot. I just about had me on my knees. My game went totally south too. Back to that cart

Stick with walking if you can... A couple of weeks ago I played on a very humid afternoon and was tanked after nine holes, took a pull cart for the back nine. Listen to what your body is telling you for sure, but don't give up! You'll find that waistline shrinking if you decide to walk whenever possible!

For somebody whose winter exercise regimen consists of channel surfing, I'm doing OK right now.
I always walk and carry my bag and 18 is a piece of cake, even with the hot weather. I'd probably feel it the next day if I had to walk 36 in a day but I could do it.
I don't run because it's boring and my knees don't like the pounding. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

I don't want to say I'm out of shape or anything but John Daly offered me a twenty yard head start on a hundred yard race which wouldn't be so bad knowing that he's a professional athlete and all but it kind of hurt when he promised not to spill any of the beer in the can he would be holding or let the cigarette fall from his lips during the race .
