Driver Head Size - Does it have to be 460 cc?

Although we have accepted that bigger is better and 460 cc is as big as it gets (legally) What are your thoughts?

Personally I am using a 455 Deep bore, switching out from time to time with a 450 Encore or a 430 Indio. Depending on what is out on demo, I will occasionally use a 410 cc TM 4300 by Raven.(With the Faz Fit system in play I can switch out head / shafts regularly to suit the course or playing conditions.)

I have found that, the smaller heads are still very forgiving, but allow you to shape shots easier.

Here is a link from London Golf discussing a recent driver head test that they conducted!

people hit fairways with their woods because of the loft... not because of the size of the head

If it's because of LOFT they might or might not. There are 2 definitions to LOFT. Lack of ....talent or LOTS of ...talent.

I still don't use a 460. The biggest driver I can look at is 350cc and it took me a long time to come around to that. And Depe, I wouldn't attribute it only to loft. My accuracy has gotten worse as my driver has gotten bigger. My mis-hits might not be as bad as they used to be, but there are a lot more of them.

I look at it the same way as irons. The smaller the head, the more you have to concentrate, the better you are forced to swing. My iron game has improved dramatically after going to blades, and my driving has gone downhill (in terms of consistency) since going to a larger driver.

    not necessarily
    i have a 401cc, 414cc, 450cc, 455cc and a 460cc
they all are very close distance and accuracy wise, its the shaft that makes the difference

Personally I think 350 cc is the ideal size! I think it is easier to work the ball and it looks great at address!
