Score for Handicap when Playing to a Temporary Green
I just wanted to clarify what score I enter when playing to a temporary green.
Here's the exact scenario. Hole #3 at King's Forest in Hamilton is normally a par 4, rated #5 on the handicap. There's construction going on so they've turned it into a par 3.
So, I hit the temporary green on my tee shot, and everyone says you don't count more than a two putt. So for the score card, I scored a 3.
The part I just wanted to clarify was the following. For any "temporary" hole situation, you examine the hole's handicap rating (i.e. 1-18), and compare that number to your own handicap. If your handicap is the same as the hole rating, you automatically card a par. If your handicap is higher than the hole rating, you automatically card a bogey. So in this case, my 9 handicap makes me card a bogey on the 5th handicapped hole (the same would apply for 8th down to 1st).
So, that day, I shot a 79 on a par 71. But for handicapping purposes, I put in an 81 for the par 72. It makes no difference how you play the temporary hole. The score you card is automatic. Do I have this right?

You are correct, you should record a par plus any handicap strokes.
Remember though that the handicap strokes are based on your course handicap, not your index.
The course can also apply to have the course given a temporary rating, but I suspect most courses don't do that. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!
