Annika Sorenstam retiring after the season

    http://www.golf.com/golf/tours_news/...739729,00.html

Annika Sorenstam will retire after the season, ending an LPGA Tour career in which she has won 72 tournaments to date and produced a defining moment when she teed it up against the men on the PGA Tour.
She was to announce her decision at a news conference Tuesday at the Sybase Classic in Clifton, N.J., a person familiar with her plans told The Associated Press.
The 37-year-old Sorenstam has hinted at retirement the past several seasons, saying she wanted to devote more time to her growing business and to start a family. She is engaged to Mike McGee, son of former PGA Tour player Jerry McGee.

Good for her. She has more than enough money to support her family to the end of time. And why retire when you're too old to start and enjoy a family. I'm sure there are lots of ladies on the LPGA happy to hear this news.

I hope she comes to the Hunt Club this August, I'd love to see her play again.

I wouldn't care if Tiger retired, just like Annika. There are lots of great golfers and I have never not watched golf because Tiger or Annika wasn't playing...

She is great. I met her at the PGA show once and she was very friendly and classy. Best of luck to her.

A buddy of mine told me she has to play there as a LPGA player has to play every tournament at least every 4 years. But if she is retiring...

I'm glad I got a see her in 2001 Canadian Open.

    Good for her.

I know that if I had her cash I would be long gone.
Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

I think that it will be a sad day indeed for golf when she retires.I never get tired of watching her compete, but i do understand her situation and respect her decision.

Why do you think we would all cry?

I found it quite refreshing to not have to listen to "Tiger this, Tiger that" during the weekend telecast of The Players Championship. I am not the only one who thought that. Members at the club I work at mentioned that fact to me yesterday.

One said "I sure do not need Woods to be playing an event to make it interesting"

Everyone retires at some point in their life. Some earlier than others, if they are fortunate enough to be able to afford to do so.
My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.
