    Turning Hands Over

I am having trouble delaying my release with my shots, sometimes resulting in hooks. I am wondering if anyone has any good tips or drills that could help me with this.

    Much Appriciated,

    Brian

I would suggest you get looked at by a Pro or at least see yourself on videotape to make sure you know exactly what is causing those hooks. You could simply be swinging too much from the inside and flipping the hands over to try and save the shot at the last second. Tiger does this sometimes...
Also check your grip and set up first. Your grip might simply be too strong. Check the basics first. Turning the hands over is not necessarily a bad thing. Hope this helps!

Assuming you're swinging right-handed you can try this drill. At the top of your swing check the position of your right arm and wrist. Your elbow should be pointing downwards and your wrist should be cocked almost as if you are carrying a waiter tray. From that position drop your elbow down to your right hip while maintaining the bend if the elbow and the position of the wrist. Repeat this up and down drill. Just drop your elbow down to your hip. This drill will help you from flipping your right forearm over resulting in some major hook shots. Hope this helps

Three essentials in a good swing are:
    1. hands ahead of the ball at impact
    2. inside club head path top the ball
    3. square club face at separation

The drill above will help get the inside path and you must train yourself to get "the left wrist FLAT and the right wrist BENT, immediately upon starting your swing until just post impact. I use Mark Evershed's "Power Click" in practice, or the TacTic, which is a similar drill device.

While the arms/hands rotate or "turn over" POST impact, YOU should do everything in your power to keep the left FLAT/right BENT for as long as possible. Inertia of the club will straighten the leverage angels at the right moment.

The shot of Hogan in the pic shows that the golfer does NOT consciously turn the hands over through impact.
