inventing a new game, need some help

game is called BOTHO cause it was invented by bobby and thotho last year

$1.00 per hole (no strokes, straight up)
    $0.50/par
    $1.00/birdie
    $5.00/eagle
    $0.50/GIR
    $1.00/putt under 31 putts ($1 for 30, $2 for 29, $3 for 28 ect)
    -----------------------

    -$1/water ball
    -$2/lost ball

Pretty simple, but I have to figure out a way to make it so a 30 cap can play against a 17 cap. Anyone have any idea what would be a fair $$ amount for the lower cap to give the high capper (like giving strokes)?? $1.25 per dif in cap?? Is that to high?

looks pretty simple When you play a match with someone you get strokes, in this case you get $$$$ instead of strokes. How many dollars, that is what I'm having trouble with

    Aren't you the actuary?

To answer your question, what you should do is create a "bank/credit" amount for each index based on the course handicap.

E.g. for a course handicap of 18, that person would play bogey golf (on average).

Create a probability distribution of eagles/birdies/pars/bogeys/doubles/etc based course handicap and from that calculate the starting $$ for each golfer.

Subtract the two to figure out the starting differential.

I would suggest awarding the 30 cap player a $22.50 credit prior to teeing off.

    -$13.00 per hole
    -$2.00 pars
    -$1.00 birdies
    -$0.00 eagles
    -$1.50 gir
    -$4.00 putts

The 30 Cap should smother the 17 cap in peanut butter, then stuff him in a microwave for 13 seconds prior to teeing off (1 second on "medium" power for every handicap point in the differential)
    Sorry, couldn't resist.

.... and then deep fry him one minute for every one putt made (eh John?)

Sounds like one of those games where you say to the silly scorekeeper, "Just tell me what I owe when we finish."

    Buck a hole match play
    Nassau
    Match for whatever.

    KISS!

Unless you are playing against mparé or you, then we just hand any money in our pocket over to the two of you on the first tee and enjoy the rest of the round!

Well, perhaps when playing mpare AND me. I did ask if you were sure you wanted that pairing though. You had your chance to be his partner!

But he was limping at that time and moaning about his sore ankle and Junior is so youthful and energetic, I had never met Mike before, how was I supposed to know I was being setup

I may have paid your monthly mortgage but I enjoyed the round tremendously

I would have no clue where to start, I don't know where they would keep stats like this. How many GIRS on average does a 18 cap hit? how many putts? what is the distribution? I don't have enough info and I really haven't been playing golf long enough to guess these numbers. I have no clue what a 7 cap normally gets If I had all the numbers this would be very doable. I'm just going to go $1 a hole. If you play match it goes by # of strokes so we'll that those strokes and just convert them to dollars. Obviously a low capper gets more pars, birds, GIRs and less putts. So maybe I should change this to $1.50/

Kilbank emptied your wallet as well?? The guy has taken money from me as well :S

Welcome to the world of handicapping. The formula was not invented overnight and it works well. Use it and don't expect re-inventing the wheel to be easy.

I have lost more than my share over the years. It just seems I win when people are likely to talk about it here. Life is good at the top of the food chain.

Every now and then the USGA/RCGA publishes stats for different handicap levels. They usually do it as a range so you'd need to interpolate for the intermediate data.

You might check their websites for the data.

i wonder if its linear... i guess it doesn't matter, it would sure make it easier if it was. I'm going with $1.50, sounds reasonable to me.
