illegal putter?
there was a putter at golftown that you could line up, walk away, check your line with the putter sitting square to the line of your putt, walk back adjust it and keep doing this. Is this illegal? The putter, when you have it at adress (grounded), if you let go it doesn't move... legal?

I can see it now. A slight gust of wind and wham! moved ball. I haven't actually seen it though.

I have seen the putter in action. I cannot imagine that there is anything illegal about it. The configuration appears perfectly legal.

Just what golf needs.
Another gimick/crutch to slow down our rounds.
That is the foursome I want to follow for 5 hours.

I would have to say it's legal. If a caddy is allowed to stand behind their player and line them up, you should be able to do it yourself!
What should be illegal are those belly and long putters!!!CH59

Many people feel the belly putter should be banned because you anchor it to your belly or sternum instead of holding it solely with your hands.
Life dinnae come wit gimmies so yuv got nae chance o' gitt'n any from me.

dan, what do YOU feel? I personally think belly putters should be illegal. Shocking I know, because I happen to use one If its legal I'm going to use it. It def does give you an edge.

I personally don't feel it is unfair. I tried one and I could not putt with it. Anything that gives you confidence is an advatage so if it's within the rules and you like it, use it.

I second that Dan. Its a different style of putter. You still need to hit it down the line and you still need to hit it the right distance. There is no advantage other that what feels best for yourself.

I had a buddy who had a putter like that.. only prob is one time he had it lined up and went to check the line and the wind blew the putter over and it hit his ball resulting an a penalty.

I'm sure it would save you more strokes than it would cost you in pen.

I think they should be illegal for Pro Golfers only. At that level they shouldn't be allowed to anchor the club to their body.
We Amateurs need all the advantages we can get so if it helps someone make more putts..I'm all for it. I've tried them at Golf Town as well, they would make a great training aide..but I also wouldn't use one when I'm playing.CH59
