How to start a new lawn
So last year when we bought this house there was an above ground pool in the back, which we removed and it left a very nice hole in my back yard. So now i want do some landscaping by adding some soil to level the are out with a slight grade towards the back.
Looking to see if anyone on here has good tips for seeding, when to do it and what i might need to do help it get to a full lawn quickly?
Oh and cost of seeding vs sodding if anyoine knows
any advise would help!
Thanks

Personally, I would just sod it. less hassel in the end.
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

yup, just sod it. Really easy to do and in a few weeks its set.
I heard of someone in richmond hill who removed all the grass on their properly and replaced it with turf!!!! they vacume it isntead of cutting it. Hilariouswilly

seeding can start anytime now once ground is prepared. You might be surprised how much soil it takes to fill even a small impression. Grass grows extemely quickly and if you don't have kids you could have a respectable lawn by mid/late June.
Seeds vary greatly depending on your requirements

Being a huge fan of "Aslk This Old House" as well as the regular "This Old House" programs, I would look into hydroseeding your space.
They use it almost exclusively on that show, and proclaim its cheaper than sod, and delivers a better lawn. I don't know if anyone in the Ottawa area does it, but its quick & doesn't require much of the property owner (except your $)Andrew

I believe that is what the Ontario Ministry uses along new highways. When they did some work on the 417 near Orleans, it was just a truck spraying what look like green mulch all over the dirt. Within a few weeks it was grass. The same along the centre dividers when the reworked Innes Road..... just sprayed with that green mulch and it grew beautifully in no time at all.
