    Panama Hats

It has been very strongly suggested to me that to prevent further ski damage that I wear a large Panama type hat when I play golf. Has anyone seen any of these hats available locally. I checked Golftown and Nevada Bob's and they don't carry this style.

I know that you can get them online but I want to make sure that the size is correct. Any help would be appreciated.

Lyle, Tilley's are known for their hats. They are available at several locations in Ottawa including Saddle Creek Trading which is located in the mall where the Bell's Corners Chuck Browns store used to be located.

You may wish to call ahead to see what sort of stock they have.

I have a friend who is a senior golfer and a women's club champion. She was advised the same thing a few years ago and now always wears a Tilley while playing.
Fortunately she has the game and the looks to pull it off

You may want to check out the hats at Mark's Work Warehouse. I think they have outlets in most areas. I have a couple of them and depending on your taste will more than do the job. I have tried on the Tilley Hats and although they will meet your needs I find that they are a little on the heavy side and don't look like they would breath that well. The upside of course is that they can be squeezed into a pocket in your golf bag and still be ready to wear a week later.

Now that the serious suggestions are in, you could always wear this.

John, that would suit him perfectly except he'd have a bit of trouble keeping it on running.

Kiwi - you should really have another look at the Tilley's. Most of them weigh only 3-4 ounces and they are all super breathable as they use incredibly well engineered fabrics - I have 3 different ones and I love them all

    Another vote for the Tilley.

I have one for camping/hiking and it has served me very well. Although if you happen to get to the Toronto or Montreal area with any frequency, i'd recommend you buy it at their company store so you can try out all of the styles. Here are the addresses:

    Flagship Store
    900 Don Mills Road
3 lights south of Lawrence; 2 lights north of Eglinton
    Toronto, ON M3C 1V6
    (416) 441-6141

    1050 Laurier Ave. West
(two streets west of Park Avenue)
    Montreal, QC H2V 2K8
    (514) 272-7791

I got this from Sportchek, or maybe SportExperts. Very light and breathable.
Also easy to re-shape after leaving it in the golf bag..

If I wore one of these on a windy day, I could end up in Halifax.
Thanks for all your suggestions. I will definitely check them out.

It is never too late to learn that the sun is not always your friend and a wide brimmed hat will definitely help.

I was just browsing this & I realize that there are very few golf sun hats out there. The tilley hat is nice, but there has got to be some more variety and style available.

I did buy a Tilley hat in Bell's Corners and while not the most stylish hat ever made, it does what needs to be done. The recommendations are appreciated.

I also picked one up there because of this thread. Thanks I like it. Wore it for my first golfing day at Mapleview, only today did I notice that the hat size sticker was still sticking on top of the brim

I guess I should not be shaving my melon bald and playing golf without a hat

I might have to go with the bleached blonde look this summer and skip the BIC

The least you can do is include a picture for us to mock.

Gerry, if you are reading this thread maybe you can snap a pic for our amusement.

The only problem with wearing a Tilly---it makes us older guys look really old and if you wear it backwards--it still looks the same
    Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

Going to take Hacker's suggestion. Now where is the best selection of Tilley hats in the Ottawa region? I have seen some at Apple Saddlery on Innes (near Costco). Anybody have experience with ordering these on line? See a good one (LTM9) with solid top and mesh all around. I sweat a lot and if it is too heavy or hot I will not wear it. I have seen the hats at Lee Valley and I am looking for something that will take some wear and tear. Not necessarily in my golf bag pocket but something that will spring back if it happens to get sat upon or have a bag fall on it.

Picked up the Tilley TM 10. Surprisingly light, big brim, and if it is as durable as they advertise the $76 was well worth it. Got it at Apple Saddlery on Innes (east end) near Costco. They have a decent selection too.
