"All There Banners Are Belong to Us"

OttawaGolf was hacked today for the first time since 1996. :mad :crying
The banner ad server was compromised and our ads were overrun with an ad flashing "All There Banners Are Belong to Us" Fortunately a click through went to a dead page, rather than somewhere offensive.
We have repaired the damage and added new security, so I hope it will not happen again.

Interestingly enough, the phrase rang a bell with me. It is a variation of a "joke phrase" from the online gaming community.
The phrase was "All Your Base Are Belong To Us". You see there was a really bad mis-translation of an old video game from Japanese to English some years ago. Someone did a comedy music video making fuun of the really bad game, and when the swf file below hit the gaming forums, it spread like wildfire in the "Unreal Tournament" gaming community, since "Owning" the enemies base is a really good thing.

That game looks bad enough, but they had some fun with the ridiculously poor translation form Japanese. Have a look at the video.

lol i used to play a lot of "Everquest" an online game and thousands of people use to run around in this "Virtual world" saying ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US.

I always wondered what it meant.
