paintfill on a circa 62
I'm bored and am thinking of re-doing the paintfill on my Gun Blue Circa 62
can I just go over what has been done already or do i have to remove it first?
I'm a bit worried about this finish and damaging it with poly stripper or something of that nature.
I've read the previous posts but haven't seen any reference to the gun blue finish.I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

Generally speaking it's best to remove old fill first.
I use a needle to scrape out the old paint. That way the new paint has a fresh surface to adhere to.Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

If you are bored you should make you paintfill task take some time and do something like this.

nail polish remover/acetone should take it out.

I would be very careful, as my gun blue circa lost its finish by being set down on a shop rag for a couple of minutes. And that rag had either epoxy cleaner or acetone on it.

That's why I suggested the needle. Acetone will do bad things to pretty much any finish.
Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

I used rubbing alcohol to soften the paint and used a needle to remove. then a q-tip with the alcohol to get the rest. You dont have to remove the old paint but it looks much better if you do. there will be alot of paint in the letters and it looks like crap. After the paint is dry you can just use your finger nail and lightly remove the extra paint. mine turned out great with no marks to the finish!

Really, I though acetone was pretty safe? I've used it for sure, but maybe just on a plated or stainless head. Scraping it out is obviously the safest route.
***edit*** just did a search on TCC and there doesn't seem to be a problem with using acetone on gun blue finishes.

thanks Matt. You are my inspiration. I will try the rubbing alcohol as acetone frightens the bejezus out of me. I may also try poly stripper since I think I have some somewhere.

just go to canadian tire and get some Car touch up paint...the ones that have the brush inside! works great!

if you have any old putters or clubs around...I would try it on them first. kind of a pain if you dont like the look of the clours together! and you get the hang of it before you try it on your scotty!

Matts is a bit easier to work on because he has the Charcol Mist, I'd be careful with the gunblue. You could also apply gunbluing to the putter after your done. I have a Circa 62 #2 and the finish is tricky to maintain, prob the reason why they changed it.

ok, so here it is. I am a big fan of red and the other colour is silver. fyi, i did not remove the old fill and it took 3 rounds of fill on the red but other than that easy peasy.
