Winter Scene - March 9, 2008
I thought that it might be fun for us to share a few pictures of our winter wonderland. Here are a few.

Great pics, Dan. Is that fourth picture of your back yard? If it is, there'll be no barbecuing for a while.

The juxtaposition of the basketball net and the snow is too funny.

It was like a war zone after closing the bar last night. Moving the clock ahead 1 hour at 2 means bar closed like at 3am todays time.
Well all night we had to push people out of the car park. Find places to stay for some peoples, waitresses and band members that lived further into the country but that was just the start.
Leaving the bar around 4.15am the main road of Embrun had been plowed for about half an hour we decide ok lets do it. 4 of us in our owners 4wd Envoy, start driving and people were stuck everywhere. Never seen so many people at that time of night in a small town. All the roads except the main where not plaowed. Cars stuck trying to turn into their roads and driveways. We stop help some try and get out in some cases they had to decide to abandon their cars in the middle of the road and walk home. One road had both lanes blocked with with cars that had been abandonned. We got stuck ourselves trying to turn in a road that had tire marks, thinking we could make it down. Took 45 minutes and lots of shoveling to get out.
I live at the end a a 1.2 km dead end roade between Embrun and Casselman. I tell my boss Ok I'll wlak from here. 3 cars had attempted to make it down the road and were stuck right in the middle. Snow up to my knees it took me 40 mintues to walk home. I get home to find my wife asleep on the couch and her friend asleep on the hideabed. Her car being one of the ones stuck in the middle of the road.
This morning once the plow had passed we walk back with shovels to go and rescue our friends car. The snow bank left from the plow was almost as high as the driver window! A tractor with a snow blower help remove the majority of the snow and was just driving around helping people.
This is the biggest snowstorm I have ever seen in my 39 years and that in a March! Now we wonder what the hell we moved back to Canada from Australia 13 years ago LOL.
Hope everyone is safe and is looking forward to NOT golfing for at least another 6 weeks.Bad days golf, better then a good days work!

What a couple days. This picture shows a swing set, not that you can see any swings. The top bar is at 6'6".

My house from the street. We have a circular driveway, and the crescent of a front lawn between that and the street has an average snow depth of 9' right now.
Attachment 10704
The view to my neighbour's house. If it wasn't for all the snow on the carport roof, you could walk from the snow bank straight on to it.
Attachment 10705
I've been taking care of the neighbour's house for the past 6 weeks while they were in Florida. The light standard there is exactly 6' at the top. I've had to dig it out every storm we've had this week.
Attachment 10706
And the best one, my son up against the sliding doors that lead onto my back deck. It's an 8" drop down to the deck from the door, and that is not a drift or snowbank. Just fallen snow.

My street, so far...
The last one is my neighbour's place on the left. He's still waiting for Appleseed. I think it's gonna be a while. When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

The last 3 are of the back yard. The wooden fence on the left is 2m high. The deck shot with the 2 lanterns, the fence there is 5 feet high. The last one is a pathe from my mudroom door, which is 3 feet above ground level. Had to dig a path for the dog.

Got you guys beat with the pics though.
Check out CTV News tonight. Saw them at the end of our parking lot about 1/2 hour ago. Was funny watching the TV crew film some poor girl stuck at the end of the entrance and not going anywhere. If they would have helped her, rather than film her, she might have been able to get going.
My guess is it will be on tonight at 6 PM.I've spent most of my life golfing .... the rest I've just wasted"
