Importing a vehicle from the U.S.`

I know this was discussed before, and I think this may be useful.
Here is a link to a PDF file I got from the Ministry of transportation which explains in detail everything you need to know about importing a vehicle into Canada:

    http://www.filefactory.com/file/7b365d/

For me; in the end I ended up buying my car from an importer who brought the car up from California to Montreal and got the Canadian title for it before I bought it.

It would have probably been $2000-$2500 less had I done everything myself, but that was worth the headache and time for me. Even so, I ended up saving somewhere betweek $10k and $12 over a similarly priced Canadian car (providing I could even find one with the combination). There are some companies in Toronto and Montreal that do this and can look for you.

Which importer did you use if you don't mind me asking. Did you find the car then tell them to buy it? Or did you buy from an inventory like Jarred posted.
    Thanks!

Smoothie. In my case I wanted an Audi, so I concentrated on finding dealers who specialized in bringing in Audis. If that is your choice of vehicle, I can help let you know of the dealers.

I was lucky enough to find a car that was already in Canada, and met with my criteria. But most of the companies will locate you one as they browse through the auction sites they use.

There's plenty of information in that link to show you how to import a vehicle into Canada from the US.

I might end up taking that route with a used car in a month or so, I'm having trouble finding any good deals locally on used vehicles, and rather than just go to the GTA and get one I might as well just put in a little more effort and get something as good or better for a couple thousand less.

Good site to be sure. The PDF I posted comes from CBSA and explains everything step by step also.
