    Removing Rust from Circa

I have a Circa 62 putter with the black oxide finish with some rust spots. I think I am going to try and remove the rust however, what are the best products available in Canada to do so? On a couple other boards, some have suggest Flitz or Break Free CLP but I have no idea which local retailer, if any, would carry them. Any help / thoughts is appreciated.

Honestly, just get some fine steel wool (0000 or 00000) and give it a rub. I had a rusted up old SD1 and it took the rust off like magic, and didn't hurt the finish at all. Flitz works too, and you can get it at Golfworks, but give the steel wool a try.

Silly question but would an SOS pad work? Or is that not fine enough?

Too coarse I think, probably would scratch up the finish. 0000 steel wool is very fine.

Tried the steel wool but couldn't remove the spots. Is there any equivalent product to Flitz that would work for rust removal that a guy could find at their local Home Depot / hardware store?

How deep is the rust? Is it pitting at all? You could try wd-40 too. It shouldn't harm the finish, but it will take the paint off. Spray it on a q-tip and try rubbing a small area in the cavity or on the neck first, just to make sure it does no harm to the finish. Then spray it on a cloth and rub the rust spots.

If it's pitting, then nothing will fix it short of a restoration.

It doesn't appear to be pitting - I think a product like Flitz (for example) would work, it's just hard to find. I will try the WD-40 although, there is some rusting around the paint so I'd likely need to get Flitz (or equivalent) to remove all the rust.

If I do need a restore, do I need to send it back Titleist/Scotty Cameron?

Thanks for the all the help - it's much appreciated.

The custom shop is pretty expensive these days. $145 for the resto + $20 shipping there and $40 shipping back. Colbert (http://www.putterplating.com) or Black Oxide Services (http://www.blackoxideservice.com/golf.html) are lots cheaper and do great work as well.

    Elbow Grease

I have the Circa #2 and the best method I found to remove the rust spots was to gently apply some CLR with a Q-Tip on the spots and then spray it down with WD-40 and use a buffing cloth (for shoes) and just elbow grease it..it preserves the finish and the WD-40(Water Displacement) acts as a lube to prevent rust from really sticking . Hope this helps.
