Consensus among owners at the golf show was that we should see courses opening around the last week of April.

I just returned from Windsor today. There is very little snow on the ground, but there were no courses open (I brought my clubs too, just in case). They got another 5 cm or so on Thursday, but most of it had melted by this morning. Might be a course or two opening there this week, maybe even in the London area too.

Still some snow on the ground from Kitchener all the way to Kingston - I would say at least two weeks away there. A very noticeable increase in snow cover from Kingston to Ottawa - I think the 3rd or 4th week of April is probably correct.

I'm starting to get a little more optimistic, maybe some of the first courses on the weekend around the middle of the month.

Everyone would have been happy if I had been right. At least I have the guts to stick to my original guess. Thanks for making the effort of pointing it out every chance you can get.

If we get the 20-25mm of rain they are calling ofr with the 10-12 degrees, this snow will disapper in no time. I remember thinking that we wouldn't be able to get out and play ball, this is before my golf days, because of all the snow on the ground. It's amazing how fast this stuff goes when it starts.

I talked to the Super at the course I work at today and he told me 3 weeks before our course will open.
That is roughly 3 weeks behind the past few years.
    Good Luck in Ottawa.

On a positive note, based on the frequency that my sump pump is kicking in, I can definitely confirm that the ground is not frozen.
Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

We all certainly would have been thrilled with April 5th..................

I will point out Hacker said April 4th though...............so he beat you there.......

My comments on the "Snow Melt Contest" thread were as follows:
    http://forum.ottawagolf.com/showpost...4&postcount=47

"There will always be a course or two from the list who will open even if they have plowed snow off the fairways/greens and the golfers are sinking up to their ankles in water and mud. They are happy to have the anxious golfers and their green fees. I would say this course would open April 10th !! (My answer !!)

The courses which have plenty of $$ invested in condition ie (Marshes, Loch March, Stonebridge etc.) will wait until conditions are appropriate.
The date for these courses opening will not be before April 26th."

From what it looks like from talking with various courses I might be fairly close on this one. My guess still is someone will open April 10 - 15th even if conditions are almost unplayable.
As Dan said, he was hearing at the Golf Show many courses are aiming for last week of April. Therefore, I would not be suprised at all to see some Saturday May 5th Openings................

Check the Spring Openings calendar in the menu. It's starting to fill up.
The frontrunner for the moment is Loyalist in Kingston scheduled for April 11

http://forum.ottawagolf.com/ includes the menu for the rest of the site. Refresh the page if you don't see Spring Openings at the top of the menu.

If it's not there, right click in the sidebar and choose Refresh (or Reload). I couldn't figure out why it was missing. Must just be how the site is cached.
