Grip removal.
Generally, how difficult would it be to salvage a putter grip if I want to get my putter cut down? It's a band new putter with a nice Winn grip. I know the custom practice is to simply grips when replacing them. Is it worth asking the guy to try and save it, or should I just pay for a new grip?
Thanks.

Ask to have it saved. Because it's a Winn grip it's hit and miss. The grip solvent tends to get absorbed in the grip as opposed to spreading along the length of the grip in your tradition rubber grips.
Some people are like Slinkies... they're really good for nothing, ... but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs...

If they have a compressor set up, it's very easy. If they don't, I doubt they'll do it for you. I personally use the v-groove tool from golfworks, which is really easy to use and works well.

Chris is right, Winn's, if they release at all tend to blow apart at the seams in the patterns on the grip. If there was no, or very little 2 sided tape used, then they will blow off easily. I figure it costs 5 bucks just to try to save one.

The best thing I did for all of my grips is cut the old ones off, wrap some masking tape for sizing and use the compresor to put them on. Now i can change grips in a flash and save what ever grip I want. Ask your installer to do this the next time you get your grips replace and you'll never have this problem again. You can try to needle the Winn grips but they usually fall apart. The compressor usualy blows a hole in the wraps if there's any kind of double tape on them. Best bet is to buy a new grip.
