    Who uses intelligolf???

I was thinking it would be a good idea to get a few guys who use intellingolf together and spend a day every two weeks or so surveying a golfcourse that hasn't already been done. At that rate we would have most of the courses on the OG website done by the end of the golf season. If the course would be willing to let me onto the course while by buddies play and I just walk with them (without clubs) or let me on to walk it without clubs when its not busy I would be willing to do more than 1 every two weeks. I did speak to a few courses last year when i was thinking of getting the GPS unit and the guys in the clubhouse didn't have any problem with me surveying the course without playing if I wasn't in anyones way.

Who uses and who is down? We could figure out what courses we needed to survery before others and we can give everyone a course to do.

As you know I use it.

Good idea to get a list started of who's doing what courses. They take a long time to post surveys on the Intelligolf site so a list of what's being worked on in Ottawa would be great.

if we can get 5+ people in on this we can do it in no time. I'll convince hacker to pick up a gps unit as well with intelligolf.

I'm willing to do any course in kanata

would one walk through be enough if I wasn't playing?? Also, I'll have to meet up with you once so you can show me how to survey so i'm not trying to figure it out on the fly.

Glenmar is a must for me so I'll start with that one.

How much is Intelligolf and is it fast to get the distance you want?

Yes but when playing you may decide that some better markers may be needed. Play several rounds and fill all the data before uploading it to intelligolf. There are way too many courses with only one set of tees input and only a few points of interest that only apply to the creator's game, and nothing else.

    Intelligolf software is $50.

You look at your GPS enabled PDA. Reading the screen takes a few seconds.

I was told that GPS information look time to load on your PDA. What’s the refresh rate? When I get to ball in the fairway is the distance updated immediately on the PDA or is there a delay?

Also do you have to manually switch from lets say green #4 to tee box #5 or does the software automatically know that you are know on T-box #5?

I find there is a delay for the device to 'settle' and get a steady reading from satellites. I use an old Palm m505 with a Magellan attachment, so it maybe different for newer units.

Once I'm off the green, I use the Intelligolf to enter my score for the hole, it then automatically goes to the next hole.

The delay from stopping your cart to reading the screen is only 10 - 15 seconds tops while it settles down.

At the end of each hole I tap in my score, putts, penalties, Fwy hit, and then next hole. It takes the same time as marking a card with a pencil. When you import to your computer at home you get some interesting stats. You can track yardges for every shot if you wabnt to. I don't bother with that. You learn your true yardages very quickly with it.

Do you have to enter your stats for every hole or can you use it exclusively to get distance readings?

$50 dollars for Intelligolf but do you need to pay a monthly or yearly membership fee? Do you get premapped courses like sky caddie?

Interesting. I didn't know they made such things.

Where would I look for such an attachment? I have a Tungsten E.

You don't have to enter antything.

No ongoing fees. There are about 21 local courses available. Unfortunately some are kinda thin on points surveyed as I mentioned above. Hundreds of courses there from all over the states.

Users survey and submit to the intelligolf website. The Manderley files on the site are the ones I did.

    Thumbs up Intelligolf

I used intelligolf last year and loved it.

It does take time to setup and your best way to enter gps ifno is to walk or play the course alone; if your are with someone or a group it would slow you down while you take readings. There are a total of 9 possible gps entries per hole. Each reading would be 30 seconds or more because you want to make sure your reading that you enter is accurate.

The other way to capture GPS readings is from Google earth and then enter them manually into Intelligolf. Using the ruler in google earth you can go to the center of the green and then go to the 100, 150 and 200 mark and get your gps readings.

I tried the Google Earth method and it was up to 20 yards off in a variety of directions.

Have you had success with doing a course that way?

The GPS attachment I have is the Magellan Companion I believe. I bought both the m505 and the attachment together on ebay. It should be listed as a compatible device on the Intelligolf website.

I have a few courses mapped, although most are not very detailed. I have the three green locations, but only a few of the yardage markers for longer holes, par 5's. I don't tend to mark the bunkers or water, I'm not aiming there, so I don't want the know mentally of how far it is, I'm going for the green!!

I believe I hace Manderley, Canadian, Mountain Creek, Greensmere, Meadows, and all of the Clublink courses minues Eagle Creek. I probably have others that I forgot to mention. I haven't posted them as they are not full surveys with each yardage marker.

OMG, I need those kanata courses!!! if someone has survey a course and you want to change some of the distances or all more points.. can you add them after you hve downloaded the course off the site?

Also, is there a way to share courses that haven't been added to intelligolf.com yet but are still on your pda

I don't think so. You have to upload them to intelligolf for sharing. A good move on thier part. It encourages contributions to the whole community of users instead of just sharing between friends.

Thanks Dan, got the software back on my new laptop. Also sync it up with my Palm, but found out that since the battery's been drained for so long, I haven't used it since the golf season, that I lost all my courses and stats etc. Not a happy camper, although i should have figured it would be lost since I didn't charge the unit for months.

I do have a few courses on my old laptop, so I'm going to try and boot it up and get a few of the courses over.

Anyone use Intelligolf with a Blackberry? I'm thinking of switching to that, since I carry my cell phone with me on the course anyways.

You should be able to restore it by sincing to the old laptop, then syncing with the new one. If the old one will behave long enough.
The courses should be in your player database on the old laptop. Copying that should work. Let us know.

you don't need a data plan to use GPS. I used my Treo w/ intelligolf & a gps unit until I broke my Treo, then broke another treo, then gave up on having a nice phone

The newer BB's come with GPS built in, there's a new Pearl with GPS too. Although its recommend to use BT GPS unit instead. I'd leave the BT unit clipped to my bag, then I can take the BB in and out of my bag without having to worry aobut losing a GPS connection.
