I've been golfing 11 years. Damn...that's half my life.
I also think the bigger influence on me was Happy Gilmore

I've been playing since I was 10... So this will be my 15th season. Didn't own my first piece of Tiger Woods clothing until 1998.
He may not have brought me into the game, but I gave up on my hopes of a green jacket in 1997 after he demolished the field.Let's put a Smile on that Face!

Payne Stewart and my grampa are what got me into golfing.

Started in early '70's. New golf course in the neighbourhood, bought shares and started to play. Like a few other guys stop for a while, playing too much ball in the summer (150 to 200 games), then kids and more balls but in the last 8 years I play lots...
Father-in-law invited me to come out and give it a try with his old clubs. I think I hit one good shot, and immediately knew that I needed to do that again, and to understand how I did it.
Isn't it how we have started. You shoot 190 but hit 1 or 2 good shot and that is it.... we fall in love with the game.
As for Tiger, he didn't really got me hook, but with him contributing so much to the popularity of golf most of my friends are now playing so it makes it a lot of fun. Sunday night we regularly have 3 or 4 foursome and we have little tournaments, those are just priceless.

Tiger has definitely increased golf's popularity.
He has had a great inpact on people learning the game who are Asian and'/or Black.
Look at how many people watch golf when Tiger's in the field and when he's not.Bite, Bite!

I started playing when I was 8 or 9. Played all my junior golf at Lombard Glen. There were a few juniors out there when I first started but aroud 97/98 it was crazy how many kids started joining. I can say for sure it was because of Tiger, thats all they talked about, being like Tiger.

I think I started "really" playing the game when I was about 13 or so. I got my first membership at this time. That would make it around 1995, or so. Those remain my "Glory Days." It is funny how you have trouble improving at some point during this game. I don't play enough, I guess.
My name is Paul. And I'm a golfaholic.

I started in July 2004. Nothing to do with Tiger, just sounded like fun when a friend said she had booked group lessons.

1960 is when I first played. I can still remember it.

What a coincidence! Started in 1960 as well. Took 16 indoor, winter lessons from Earl Stimpson at the YWCA on Gladstone Avenue and played my first round at the Capital Golf Gardens, second at the Glenlea.(101) Seems like yesterday.
To this day one of my biggest thrills in golf was seeing a real golf green for the first time. Never knew that grass could be cut that short.

I started golf because of pro athletes...but it had nothing to do w/ Tiger or any other tour player. As a kid I was a huge baseball fan, then the strike happened, and my uncle brought me out to a course ... never looked back.

I actually started due to corporate reasons. Went to a tourney and couldn't play so I went late and vowed not to make same mistake so I started practicing at fields for fun to get a grasp and it became an overpowering obession. That being said I still do love watching Tiger.
Wouldn't have it any other way though.

I'm a Norman/Nicklaus era golfer. I started at the end of university (1982), having played with a university roommate once in my final year. I have played about 10-15 rounds per year since then - always thinking this will be my year .

I am like you Mike ,, i first touched a club when i was 16 ,,played 2 rounds , 96 and 92 , and never played again until i was 20 or 21 ,,, but i don't play quite as much as you do ,,, i guess that's because i love my trout fishing just too much to ever become a decent golfer. But since the Tiger era , i now like golf just as much as fishing , and you know me and my fishing ( i never stay for a beer with the boys after the rounds cause i HAVE TO GO FISHING,hehe) , that's saying alot about Tiger
But i'll tell you mike,, you have just about as nice a swing as Tigers silky smooth ,unlike my nick price type swing ,,,,popeye never was a golfer was he
heheh

Not a decent golfer!!!! Dude you’re a 4.x index. Don’t underestimate yourself. You are a very good gofer and I’ll bet my clubs that most members on this forum and at our course would kill to have your talent. That being said I would not compare you to Nick Price but more to Gomez who throws is 3W on the water canister.
Strive for perfection, but never expect it!
