Newport 2 "Beach"!!
Sorry, i am super pumped this morning. I love my new SS Newport 2 putter but have always loved the feel and sound that my Newport Beach used to make that I owned previous to the Newport 2. So basically i wanted a Newport 2 beach putter. Well i found a place in the states that is just perfecting the ability to "beach" putters who is actually the same guy i always send my putters to get refinished to.
Well i was browsing the golf sites and found a relatively nice, silghtly beat up Newport 2 for really cheap that i bought and now sent off to get refinished and hopefully "beached". Really pumped as it should cost me under $200 for the putter, the refinish and the "beaching". I will post some pics of the putter as is now, and hopefully within a month, i will be able to send some updated pics of the putter new, hopefully my "holy grail" of putters!

If you don't mind me asking, where are you sending it? Should be awesome.

Sending it to Colbert Putter Plating in Blaine, MN. Kevin has done a bunch of my putters so far and he's awesome at them. You can check out putterplating.com to see what he does. He told me he was just perfecting it and should be offering it in about 2 weeks. I have the putter mailed to him today and am gonna get the Stainless Steel treatment, face milling and then the "beaching". Not sure if i am gonna stamp the initials on there yet, perhaps the Maple leaf with the initials inside like the pic below.

I have to ask. What exactly is a beach finish?

A "Beach" putter has a slot cut in it to change the sound it makes when you hit the ball.
Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

Thanks. I know exactly what you're talking about now.

ya the beaching changing the sound of the ptter and the feel. It gives it a more "crisp" feeling, and i find it gives me a lot more feedback on the quality of strike.

Dave,
I'm having my initials put inside a Maple Leaf on my Beached Newport as well - I just love that look.
I'm also glad to hear that you have good results with Colbert........I can't believe his prices - the SC Studio has gotten a tad crazy of late

Sounds great! I knew Palombi and Slighter were doing them, I didn't realize Colbert was as well. I'm keen to see how nice this comes back, he does such nice work.

here we go people... finally got my new putter now that i am back into the country for a couple weeks! It is beyond what i thought it would be, he did a PHENOMENAL job and even got the "titleist" name off of the face for me.
I'll try and upload pics... they are too big!

Thanks Dave!!...
Open them using MS Photo Editor and re-size them (imaging>resize)Some people are like Slinkies... they're really good for nothing, ... but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs...

This is What Kevin did to a Studio Design 2 I got from Lance last year. When I picked it up all the finish was off of it. I really like the SD 2's and don't plan on selling it so I pimped it with nickle plating, CND flag, initials etc.

lol! That's it exactly, who cares? Chris isn't going to sell it with the CSM on it, and if he does he's not going to list it as a tour putter. The maple leaf engraving makes it obvious it's not Scotty's work. It's just an OTR putter (that looks awesome Chris), Scotty pumps these out to the tune of 200,000 putters a year. Why not customize it if you want? Who says you can't paint your car a different colour? Some of the nicest OTRs I've seen have had non-CS work done to them. A mod on TCC had a mil-spec done up in OC and beached. Looked awesome. Another one had a Classic I finished in OC. It happens a lot.
Looking forward to seeing the NP2 at the beach pics, Dave.

here are some pics of the newly finished beauty!!! Sorry the sole pic didn't turn out good, but the topline pic really shows the 'beaching' which is perfectly done, not too bad for the first putter being tried on!!
I always really liked the fact that he was able to mill the face and how it removed the 'Titleist' from the face, making a much cleaner look!!
All in all, i couldn't be happier with the putter, will def make a run at the bag with the newly acquired Oil Can Laguna and ultra MOI/reliable TM Monza Inza!!
If you ever are questioning Colbert's workmanship just look at the before and after pictures. There was a ton of dings/dents in this putter when he received it, and now it looks new to me, i can't find one ding on this baby and the finish looks PERFECT!!

Looks really nice. Did he mill the face down to get rid of the Titleist engraving, or did he weld over it and then re-mill? If he milled it, how much weight did you lose?
