Donny - do you really believe that the Sens made it to the finals BECAUSE of Emery?
Could it be that he was just fortuante enough to be the goalie for a good team.........I'm mean Lalime took us to game 7 of the Conference finals - All Emery did over and above that was 2 more wins

It's perception too. To please a fan base, a GM signs a goalie that hit the bigtime (less a a few games).
PS. It was very difficult writing perception at this stage of the day.Donny Vantage NFL Guru, since 1974

While I agree Brzyghalov is the better goalie, I think people ARE being to quick to criticize Emery. Yes, we had a great team last year, but Emery also played very good hockey in the playoffs. And there is no substitute for playoff experience (something which a majority of the goalies in the league lack). People were all for Emery during the playoffs last year, until we lost, at which point people forgot about all the great things he did do in the playoffs. I think Bryzghalov is the better goalie, and right now Gerber has earned himself the starting job in Ottawa, but Emery is still a guy with the potential to be a very good goaltender for many years.

Dude, there wasn't one game where I was 75% confident in our goaltending. The guy just doesn't have the fundamentals and he doens't have Hasek's... whatever you want to call it... to make up for it.

Big Shooter is coming on board this year Donny. He is a Closet Sharks Fan.
As the year progresses maybe a few more Leafs Fans will see the light and want to move west to San Jose
Funny thing is, I cheered for the Sens last year in the Cup Final. I figured if my Sharks were not there then I would stand behind the Sens. So much for that idea workingMy opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

Well ya may get a few, but I think the post count at the end of the year will be somewhere around 1400 to 40. LOL I do like the Sharks, a lot more then the Leafs.

Emery's career stats: 61-29, 2.61 GAA, .911 Save %
Bryzgalov's stats: 28-23, 2.42 GAA, .912 Save %
How is Bryz the better keeper?? They both played on really good teams, so you can't say one hid better behind a good team. Bryz has never played more than 31 games in a season, and that year he was 13-12-1, so he hasn't really proved anything.
I would take Emery over Bryz in a heartbeat, Emery has proven he can be a #1 goalie, and if it wasn't for his injury he would be the #1 right now still.

i was trying to check the stats on the above things that are mentioned, but i couldn't find them on NHL.com... because they are irrelevant to hockey. Has he ever missed a start because of a missed flight or road rage?? Emery's actually only making $2.75 this year, not too shabby.

Are you serious??? The man crashes his humvee on the Queen's way in his attempt to catch the flight that he slept in for.....I personally think that is relevant and I also thing that Ray is a ticking time bomb - time will tell but for my $$ Ray is just too big a risk.
If the Sens do trade a 'tender I'd be shocked if it was Gerber over Emery

Well, his save percentage and goals against are better. But seriously, if you look at his fundamentals, Bryzghalov is by far the better technical goalie. If I was to have the option of one or the other, I would probably grab bryzghalov. But again, as I've said earlier in the thread, I don't think the Sens should be trying to get rid of Emery, as he has proven that he can be a number 1, and there is little trade market for him at the moment. If a great deal came along though, I'd be willing to listen.

Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson has suffered a groin injury and isn't expected to play in Saturday's game against Philadelphia. Alfredsson suffered the injury during Thursday's shootout loss to Pittsburgh.

right he crashed the Humvee attempting to catch the flight when he slept in... the game was the next day in Jersey, he still made it in time and started. That game he allowed 2 goals on 29 shots, .931 Save%, doesn't sound like the "accident" hurt the team or his performance at all.
Until i see that his "questionable" off-ice actions affect his on-ice performance, i don't see how they are relavent at all. I am not saying they won't affect him at some point, just saying that they haven't so who cares about his off-ice actions??
I really hope that they don't trade either tender, cause as good as the Sens are, if they trade Emery and then Gerber gets injured long-term, are you comfortable with Elliot tending the net for our playoff run? We have two good goalies right now, and are carrying $6.5 total which is a number the team can handle for the year.

Speaking as someone who's had numerous groin pulls and tears and a sports hernia, i'm afraid for Spezza and Alfie's groin issues. They could be recurring. Not good. Hope he takes the time to heal, instead of trying to come back to soon.

Well, let's just leave my groin care alone. LOL
Soooooo... 3-0 Phoenix after 10 minutes (and 8 shots) on this lovely Hockey Night in Canada Saturday.
Alfie is sitting out. Anyone know who is the Captain tonight? Hope the boys can all lift their game to compensate.

Yeah, what is happening on defence? They are giving up way to many shots lately. Mind you, Gerber allowed a couple soft ones tonight. I think they missed Alfie a bit too.

Gerber had to stand on his head a bunch of times...i think they had 30 shots on him in just over 30 minutes? The D lately cannot clear the puck out of the zone...and the wingers aren't exactly holding their own out there on the opposing D-men.

Every team will have periods when they simply don't play very well. The great teams know how to will themselves out of such doldrums. My guess is that Ottawa will do just that. Last year, the pundits were writing off the Sens based on their play during the first month of the season. It will be interesting to see how quickly these naysayers will materialize this time around. For my part, I have every faith that the Senators will get back to business, which is the pursuit of Lord Stanley's Cup.

No doubt that the Sens 'A' game can't be matched by any other team. My only concern is nagging injuries. I don't want this team to be derailed by the injury bug.

I have to say that I like the way Gerber handled getting the hook last night. He stayed in the net the entire time that Emery took to get ready as if saying to the Coach NO WAY am I coming out. He was definitely miffed about getting the hook - I like to see that level of competitiveness
