Some teams make bad signings. You should look up who their agents are too.

What happened to Wayne Gretzky? I though he had signed a 99 year $99 million personal services contract at one point?

Wouldn't Spezza and Heatly be above the $50 million mark with their recent signings?

But they haven't officially "earned" it yet. This is probably what they've been payed so far. Am I right in assuming that Willy?

Judging by these numbers, some of these guys cashed in big at the right time in their careers. To bad all of them aren't worth the amount they've been paid.

Looking at the list, the ones that I think 'earned' it the most are Joe Sakic and Nicklas Lidstrom. Lidstrom might go down as the second best defenseman of all time next to Bobby Orr.

Although I am of the opinion that no player in any sport is worth millions of dollars to PLAY A GAME THEY LOVE, I think there are very few on that list that did not make an impact on the team(s) they were on.

Judging by that list, I'd have to say Roy and Messier are the bargains of the bunch listed. But like Bob, I agree that pro athletes are way overpaid to "play" a sport. Granted I would kill to be in their place, I don't hold any animosity against them, except when they whine and hold out for more money.

Hell Geoff, even an Idiot would love to be in their place and no, I hold no ill will against them for making lots of money. If anyone is to blame for this it is 1. The owners and 2. the greedy agents.

I don't understand when people say players make to much money. You do realize that if these players didn't make this much money all the money would go to the owners. I'm sure there would be some savings passed on to the fans but if we are willing to pay these crazy prices now I'm sure the owners would figure it out and try to get as much of that money back into their pockets.

No doubt, all I'm saying is I can't believe the amount of money these guys/gals get paid to play a game........

    Not bad pocket change................

However, look at some of the other sports..........A-Rod opted out of his $252 million 10 yr contract with Yankees and his Agent is shopping him around for a $350 million contract...................

Actually it’s ticket prices that should be lowered. I don’t understand when someone pays $150 per seat to watch a live game other then in the playoffs. The best seat is in my living room watching the game on HB surround. Beer at $1 or so a bottle….

I agree about Lidstrom, he's a phenomenal d-man that stands out when the league is filled with amazing d-men. He won 3 straight Norris trophys in this day, which is amazing.
