    A live sporting event...

Considering the amount of money we spend on live sporting events (professional, not including junior or amateur here) you expect to have a great atmosphere. I was at the Sens game on Thursday and my god was it ever dull. Compared to the NFL and even the NBA, it's no contest.

What can Ottawa do to liven things up??? Ultimately, I wish it was like a English Premiership game!!!

I was there too and when you're getting your butts kicked and are playing like crap, what do you expect? Did you go to the Stanley Cup finals last year, I did and that was loud and raucus and awesome!!!!

Wouldn't you say that the Ottawa crowd is quieter than other places? Why is that?

Ottawa is known to be a "conservative" town due to its large contingent of Public Servants. It may be a label but I see it as true in some areas.

We were at 0-0 after the first period. There was ZERO going on during the first period. The loudest folks was the McDonald's employee group. What, do we NEED to have a goal to cheer? If we're down 1-0, does that mean shut up and don't move. I'm glad I didn't pay for the ticket. It was a very dull evening.
And Weazl, there are 41 home games if I'm not mistaken that make up the bulk of the revenue. They should put out a better atmosphere for families and generation Xers.

I definitely have to agree based on the games I've been to. If they aren't playing the leafs, there's no guarantee of any action in the crowd. The solution? More beer.

The reason there is a good atmosphere when the Leafs are there is because of their fans (us).

Want a better atmosphere? It should start with the fan. This may be attributable to why the Lynx are now gone and why the Renegades folded. There is no passion for the sports teams in this town. It's pathetic.

The Sens are putting the product on the ice for your enjoyment, they shouldn't have to bend over backwards to make sure people enjoy themselves. I think it would detract from the game if they tried anything other than showing the game.

If you're a fan, make your experience enjoyable for yourself. If you don't, just watch it from home. I wouldn't let someone else affect my experience if they were being lame at a sporting event. But, I find that excess cheering gets you "weird" looks at the Scotiabank Place! Then again, I'm rarely cheering for the Sens!

Maybe they should scam the cheerleader idea from the 67s!

It's a total myth I am afraid that the Ottawa crowd is quiet.

I have been there when it was loud and pumping, and also when it was like a library.

Same as any other arena in the NHL. Sometimes the atmosphere is electric, sometimes not, just the way is.

I have been to EPL games too, same phenomenon. St James Park in Newcastle is supposed to be one of the loudest (the ACC or Bell Centre if you like) and I have been there when it has been so loud that your ears ring for hours afterwards and also when you could hear a pin drop for most of the game.

It's just the way it is. Certain things that go on in the game can have an affect on the crowd, either pumping them up or deflating them.
