removing shaft from iron head

Ok just pulled the shaft out of the 7 iron, I guess that was the easy part. Why is everyone saying to tip trim when the guide for those shafts say to butt trim.

Beacuse they are taper shafts. No tip trimming needs to be done on taper shafts. Please provide a link to the CS trimming.

Taper tip shafts are manufactured/designed to be butt trim only.

Parallel tip shafts, with a couple of exceptions, are designed so that for each shaft you trim a specific amount from the tip and then the rest from the butt. The long irons have less tip trim than the short irons so if you take a 4i shaft and put it into a 7i you would need to trim the tip (probably 1.5") and then from the butt.

If it's a taper shaft and you put the 4i shaft into the 7i, the 7i will play to a much softer flex than the other clubs in the set.

Thats what I am saying but three people have already said that I have to tip trim. Also I used the close match guide to the CS which is TT TX-90 taper tip went to the golfworks site and its code is to butt trim.

Exactly. Taper shafts do not need any tip trimming but each first step is .5 longer per club (the distance from the heel of the club to the first step- line up the clubs against a wall and you will see this progression) . So if you do so it will not only play softer but the butt part that you will cut away to get it to 7 iron length will make the grip smaller as the butt of the shaft decreases. If you want a taper tip shaft for a 7i, you need to buy the 7i shaft. You are talking about putting a 4i shaft in a 7i head. It will play too soft if you do that.

Because those are the parallel tip shafts which need to be tip trimmed. You'd have to choose a taper shaft and then specify 7i.

There's no such thing as a left/right handed shaft, so no problems. Of course you are assuming that the G2 has the same shaft as the G5.

Not according to the Golfworks website. They have no suggested for the CS lite in the G5 series which means that they have switched from the previous model.

why does the shaft need to be the same, just get whatever you can find and put it in. Whats the big deal? We aren't pros, so what if the ball flight is a bit diff with your 7i

I just stuck the club in the fireplace. On a serious not work in Golfworks today getting some tip. Changing a steel shaft is not all that hard. I have on quick question, they did not have the shaft I was looking for a reg 38 inches, but the guy there told me that a stiff 40 inches shaft would be the same as a 38 inch reg? Is this true, I thought cutting a shaft shorter would make it stiffer?

Okay first time changing a shaft and success! I would would advise who ever is thinking a tring this to go ahead. It is not that hard, is fun to do and you feel good when done.

So I had a someone drop a shaft off the bg458 since I wasn't there to complete the deal myself so had him do it for me. Now he won't give me the shaft unless I give him the driver head and let him install the shaft... I'm not going to lie, I'm scared.
