Geoff Johnston, TV Star
So I'm milling about Nevada Bob's this evening just after 7:00 when they decide to tune in the Sens game, or at that point the pre-game, on A-Channel. The announcer is doing some "fan on the concourse" interviews, when who do I see but our own Geoff Johnston, giving his 2 cents on the state of the game, and looking like the next Pierre-McGuire-in-training.
If that's not funny enough, one of the guys working at the store looks at the screen and goes running back to the office hollering to his buddy, "Hey look at the TV. It's Geoff Johnston! You remember him don't you? He's that Cleveland guy." Man, I almost fell over laughing.
Geoff, you are famous everywhere in this town... and you buy waaaaay too much golf equipment. When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

So does this make all of the clubs Geoff is selling worth more?

That is too funny. He has been the Cleveland guy, The Bridgestone guy, the Ping guy, god damn.. Geoff Johnston is a legend in his own right.
My name is Paul. And I'm a golfaholic.

Too funny. I was wondering whether or not they were going to air that. Wish I had scene it.

I heard there was someone else they wanted to interview but Geoff offered the interviewer a couple of clubs to be first in line.

Do you mean that you wish you had seen the scene on TV. I would like to get your autograph on my hat.

That's nothing. I've been on the Golf Channel, albeit not a speaking part.
Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

It was almost a leading role.
The first time I was at Pinehurst my buddy and I got to the 11th or 12th tee of #2 and there was a camera crew there filming groups as they played the hole.
Fast forward about 3 months and I'm watching the "Pinehurst Travel Special" on TGC and I notice something familiar about the two guys walking down the fairway. Hey wait a minute, that's me! It was the two of us and our caddie walking down the fairway.
Thankfully they didn't show either of us swinging. Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

No waivers or releases were signed. Presumably because we were in public this was OK.

Good grief--could not sleep last night so I was flipping through the channels at 4:15----there he was--on Rogers 22, full face and all. So I continued to 27---there he was again. I thought I was having a nightmare Turned the TV off and went back to bed to see if I would wake up Yep it was real

So, what words of wisdom did Mr. Johnston impart upon us?

They asked about what I thought of the NHL having some early season games in Europe. With some teams tentatively scheduled to play in Prague next year, I said it's good for the global exposure of the game, but they need to hit up non-traditional hockey markets like London, like they did with the Kings and Ducks. Taking teams to the Czech Republic and other european hockey hotbeds aren't going to do much to globalize the game. They are already hockey crazy countries. They need to play in countries like Great Britain, France, Italy etc.
And they also asked me about the planned outdoor game this year. If I liked the idea, if I'd go etc. I said I like it, it's something a little different. That's about it."A life lived in fear of the new and the untried is not a life lived to its fullest." M.Pare 10/09/08
