I say you'll never know cause before you can fill that 30 gallon plastic can with golf balls it will split and you will have 1.68 inches of golf balls covering your basement floor.

already though of this, I will be putting steel bands around the can to make sure it doesn't split

You had better put that can somewhere it can be left for a while, cause once you fill it I don't think your going to be moving it around a great deal

1800.
If you want to get rid of balls, I usually donate my slightly older balls to youth golf programs for their practice balls. Sure that there are lots around looking for donations.

No it will not split. At least the ones we use at the course do not split. We use the same garbage cans Willy is talking about to haul the range balls from the range to the Back Shop. I have seen one of those cans full to the top with balls. Trust me it isn't light either! Two of us lift it off the floor of the golf cart and dump the balls into the washer. Then two of us lift it up to dump the balls into the range bin.
My guess, well under 1000 balls. I have the time to actually go do this experiment, I just can't be bothered. My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

Nah I am not going to do it. First I would have to go down to the club and load all those balls into that garbage can while counting them. Sorry, not going to do that. Then once I got them in there I would not be able to lift the can up to dump them back into the range ball bin Remember I am an "OLD MAN" according to you and I could hurt myself! I have had to lift a can that was 3/4 full, that I can do. But that other 1/4 can of balls adds some weight!
I know one thing for sure, none of the rubber garbage cans split open during the season, so they will hold a lot of golf balls. My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

I have 1/2 my balls in ottawa and 1/2 my balls in toronto. If someone who works at a course or at a range wants to try this out and give me the answer. I'll pay out the prize as promised

My question for you is : "Why do you have this many golf balls in your house? Are you planning on starting up a driving range?"
Normally when we pick the range at the course after a steady day at the range we pick no more than two garbage cans of balls.
You are going to fill one in your basement? Brian I think you need to part with some of those golf balls
Are you one of those guys who always has at least 50 balls in your golf bag?My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

No--I ususally start my round with 7 or 8 and a half dozen tees or so; but by the time I get to the car my pocket is usually filled with tees and I have picked up 5 or 6 balls----just have to keep your eyes open----and no these are not from the adjoining fairway As to the garbage pail question ---I only have a couple of hundred here but the dome is only 5 minutes away and they have lots and lots and lots---I'm trying to get my brother to help--but he knows me too well I'm just curious as hell and all my shopping is done My secret Santa present is even gone
Does the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?

OK OK Already---I'll bet you guys thought I would actually go over and count
The garbage can is 77 cubic litres
I cubic litre holds 18 balls ---no overflow---actual count
5 cubic litres holds 82 balls---no overflow--actual count
The garbage can is 77 times larger than the 1 litre container
The garbage can is 15.2 times larger than the 5 litre container-------
BUT because of the irregular shape of the ball all voids can't be filled so you have a net loss of 8 balls using a larger container or 10.25%
If you decide 1 litres holds 18 balls well I guess your total is 18 x 77 = 1386
If you decide 15.2 containers holding 82 balls your total is 15.2 x 82 -10.25% = 1119
Now if you average it out 1386 plus 1119 = 2505/2 = 1252.5 balls
So to answer the question the answer must be somewhere around 1250---I am actualy quite surprised---I guess Mr Vincent is the winnerDoes the 2nd hole-n-one come easier ?
