It makes you wonder, but stomach acid is pretty strong stuff too. I am sure the Coke pales in comparison. Besides coke does not sit idly for daysin the stomach and attack the walls.

Yeah, stomach acid is pretty strong, but I'm thinking about the Coke in your mouth and down your throat before it gets to the stomach.

Right, but dipping a rusty nail in coke and immediately rinsing it (with saliva) probably won't hurt the rust any.

OK, I just dug out an old lab book...........

pH of coke classis = 3.30
pH of Rideau River water = 6.80
pH of Ottawa City water = 6.89

The literature cites the pH of stomach acid to be 0.8 when it is first produced but quickly buffers out to a pH of 2-3 depending on the individual

I work with a lot of very, VERY smart people who are paid big money to ensure that your insides will remain just fine if you happen to have a coke or two mon ami. If there were any issues at all there would be warning plastered all over the coke can

There are a lot of "Myth Buster worthy" stories about the power of Coke

For instance, I can guarantee it isn't good for the stomach when mixed with a nice rum. Good for the soul, though.

If I reach back into my university years, I believe Phosphoric acid would strip chrome. But it is some nasty nasty nasty stuff.

did we ever decide how to de-chrome the irons? I know i am gonna get the same reactions, but i want to do the same to my B'stone J33 blades. I love the look of the raw irons when they look rusty.

I thought the Js were a satin type finish. They should be easier to "raw" than the chrome Nikes.

oh ya?? That would be beautiful if it was. I have spoken to a few clubmakers that say it can be done, but most say i have to ship them to the states, which i would prefer not to do.

The only way to do it properly is to de-plate or reverse electroplate them.

This will require some kind of acid solution, which is actually just a "conductor" in process, a metal bar, and a DC power supply.

I love the look, but i am also concerned with the weight loss which is likely minimal, but all that chrome must weigh something! I guess you will just need to counterbalance with weight, but i would love to find a place that can dechrome them as well as work out the weight issue.

The chrome will weigh about 6 or 7 grams. Easily added back with a tip weight.

True. The clubs will also lose some of their ability to spin the ball because of the grease factor.

Yeah, but who cares about spin when you're stuck on the 13th hungry and you can whip up a make shift griddle out of a lighter and your 9 iron to cook up some bacon sandwiches for the boys in the group.

I usually just rinse my rusty nails with saliva, skipping the coke alltogether. You're mixing up drinks there Mr. Kilbank.

I used coke to effectively clean up a copper putter once. Actually, I think I used PC Cola (cheapskate)
