    PGA Player of the Year

    Interesting debate on the PGA site about Mike Weir vs Jim Furyk as the favourites for the Player of the Year honours:

    it's a bit early to start the debate, but....

    I’d have to go with Weir, though I’ll admit to being a bit biased of course. They forgot to mention his 3rd at the US open, to Furyk of course, but a first and third in the two biggest majors of the year, not too shabby. Based on the 3 wins, the 7 top 3’s in 14 events compared to 5 top 3’s for Furyk in 19 events you have to go with Weir. Furyk is ahead of Weir in the world golf rankings, part in part because it goes back 2 years, not just 1 and Weir had a very mediocre year last year. Sure Furyk is ahead of Weir on the money list (albeit by a mere $80K), he has played 5 more tournaments. Look at $ won per tournament and it’s not even close. There’s lots of golf left and one major so time will tell, but if it were decided today, Weir is the man.

    I heard someone on the golf channel say that Kenny Perry is also a good candidate... Up until last week he was -52 in the last 12 rounds or something like that. He is consistantly up there...

    On the Golf Channel they were saying that whomever of the multiple winners so far this year wins the PGA that they should have player of the year sown up.

    Right now, gotta vote for Mikey but how do you count out, Els, Tiger, & Love III especially with what he's doing this week.

    I think it all comes down to who performs the best down the stretch, let's all cross our fingers for Mike!

    Majors

    I think on the Golf Channel they said that Mike Weir has the lowest combined score in the Majors this year at Even Par.

    Not sure if this is true.

    Overall, the Masters, a couple other wins, 7 top 3's, his top 10's, lowest combined majors score.........

    I'd go with Weir for now.

    This weekend will decide it all.
