Do you get relief from baby trees?

found my ball behind a small tree in the other fairway. I think it might have been the 150 marker for the other hole. A friend told me you get relief from small trees under one club length. I thought you only get relief from trees with ribons on them. Anyone know? thanks

NOTE: i was not in my own fairway if that makes a difference and the small tree might have been the 150 marker (i'm not sure)

You only get relief from small/new trees if there a local rule that somehow identifies which trees you get relief from. Typically they would either be marked or staked.

I shouldn't have been rewarded for that shot since I was in the wrong fairway but you would think someone at the edge of the fairway behind one of those would get relief. Why get penalized for a good shot??

If you're behind a tree, that usually isn't the indication of a good shot.

LOL, my shot was HORRIBLE but my concern is for those who hit a few feet to the left or right of the fairway and have a a small bush (sometimes tree) infront of them. The purpose of that is to indicate the 150 yard mark. To get stuck behind that would suck big time. Anyway I played two balls anyway just incase there was some crazy rule that lets me take a club length, to bad there isn't such a rule LOL

If the small tree needed protection the club should have marked it in some way and mentioned it in the Local Rules.
Was there any indication around the course that other trees in similar positions had been staked ?

I think SW was playing a local course, Irish Hills. They use little shrubs just off the fwy to mark the 150 yd pt on each hole. If I'm not mistaken, on the scorecard it states you get relief from the shrubs.

True. I was actually playing with a guy a couple of weeks ago that hit a really nice tee shot that ended up being blocked by the tree.
