    baseball/10 finger grip on drives?

Been fighting a bad slice on drives since starting golf 2 years ago. I was at the range today and, recognizing that I'm not fully releasing the club, tried switching from my usual interlocking to a baseball/10 finger grip, stricly on speculation. I immediately starting hitting bombs, either straight or actual draws and even hooks. No more slice. This raises a few questions... Why did this happen? Is this typical? Should I keep using this grip for drives? Anybody experienced with this grip? Any downside? Thanks!

Geoff just had a thread on this a few days ago.

I've been playing 10-finger for many years now and consistently draw the ball.

IMHO the 10-finger is a much more natural grip for most golfers. It promotes/allows a much easier release. The one drawback is it can lead to hooking the ball if you have that tendency.

Yup, I'm now using it with all clubs. Only thing that still requires some adjustment is chipping around the green. Still some growing pains with that.

ive been using 10 finger grip since i started playing golf over 10 years ago. i tried doing the whole interlock/overlap thing a couple years ago but i shank everything...

yes it does help turn the club over, hence why i have a bunch of lead tape strips on the toe of my driver right now...

Do you guys hold the clubs in your fingers or your palm? I think Lyle grips across his palm(s)...

I tried it both ways, but prefer it with my fingers only.

Thanks for the replies, I will continue the experiment with my driver and may try my woods too.

    Fingers for me now.

I actually experimented with the palm (aka Natural Golf) grip for a couple of seasons. It's a different motion that takes some getting used to but it worked reasonably well for me.

Don't know if you have ever noticed this Geoff, but I have always used a 10 finger grip for full shots and an overlap grip for putting and chipping

Probably a a lot easier to hold it in the palms as his grips are the size of a tennis racquet.

I never built my grips up quite that large. When I was trying that grip out I'm pretty sure I used mid-size grips with 2 or 3 layers of tape.
