backspin
I think backspiin is really neat, and impressive. How is it done and does it take yardage off of your shot??

Backspin occurs on every shot.
From what I've seen and understand, the backspin you're talking about is just an increase of what is already happening. It comes from driving down on the ball and through the ball. The higher speed (and loft of the club), the more the spin.
Have you ever been around the green and in deep rough and had to drive down really hard on the ball to get it out? Ever notice how quickly the ball stops?
It comes from years of practice and increasing the speed once the precision is there...
I don't know about the yardage, but it must decrease it (backspin increases arc in the flight path, which must decrease total yardage). The reverse (topspin and often called a flier) is when there is less backspin, and the ball keeps going and going and going...
Others will correct me if I'm wrong...

How it's done : Hit it clean, off the fairway, with no slice or hook, use a soft ball Titleist PRO V1 or what have you, nice soft greens help as well.

1. hit down through the ball - no need to hit it high as a low shot can come in with lots of spin as well as high one;
2. get clubs with good grooves;
3.and most important - use a high spin rate ball - ProV1, Strata Tour Ultimate, etc.

Yeah ok true. He used fade, not slice. A hooked shot will not spin backwards when it hits the green.
The reason the draw flies lower is the effective loft at impact on a draw is less than a fade.
The funny thing is every amateur wants to spin the ball off the front of the green and every pro wants the ball to stay put.
