Not at all. It's just a way to line up a putt to a hole that is outside your perriferal vision. If it were considered cheating there would be a rule against it.

Bridgestone and the PRO V1 have alignment lines already printed on them. Before the Sharpie was invented many pros and others used the logo/lettering on the ball. I even use the alignment stripe on the ball to help my alignment on the tee box. I am sure that a generation, or two, ago there were people who said they'd never give up their horse and buggie. The game is hard enough. Take the breaks given. Ever take a "gimme" inside the leather?

nope. not even close. most of the balls you buy today have arrows on them to help you line up the ball...no sharpie needed.
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

I get where you are coming from, as I said, I use the logo myself sometimes when I putt. But... if putting is the art of judging line and speed, the art is considerably degraded when line amounts to squaring the putterface to a perpendicular line on the golf ball. Harvey Penick though the practice seemed vaguely illegal, I ain't the only one.

You certainly have the choice if you'd rather not do it.

I think of a rainbow when I putt. It sounds stupid but once you are standing over the ball and think about a rainbow.... the colours become much clearer. Pick a colour and hit the ball.

I hate reading on putting methods since there is no 'real' solution there. I'd rather think of Einstein's ID than read Pelz (or whatever).

I've heard of many putting aids before but I stick to the rainbow. That's my secret. You won't see that in any book. If you can commit to the putt, like any other shot, you will be good. Have a routine and stick to it.
