It lands in a moving maintenance vehicle!!!
Hey Gary,
I was reading ScoreGolf's monthly issue and they always have weird and almost unbelievable stories on the last page of the magazine.
This time, they had the story of a guy who was playing on a hole where the maintenance crew was doing some slight repairs. He hits his tee shot and the ball starts going towards one of the maintenance vehicle. The ball actually lands in the cargo space at the back of the maintenance vehicle where sand/soil was put. The vehicle's driver never realized this and drove all the way to the green-side bunkers to unload the sand.
What's the ruling on this? I can't imagine that it would be playing as it lies? The ball wasn't lost. I assume there are penalty strokes involved. If so, is it a reload of the tee block? If not, where's the drop?
Thanks

If a ball in motion after a stroke other than on the putting green comes to rest in or on any moving or animate outside agency, the player shall, through the green or in a hazard, drop the ball, or on the putting green place the ball, as near as possible to the spot where the outside agency was when the ball came to rest in or on it.
